Lloyd Betts Obituary

Lloyd I. Betts

TIRO: Lloyd I. Betts, age 80, died Tuesday, June 10, 2014 at Mills Creek Nursing Home in Galion following a brief illness.

Born June 4, 1934 in Crawford County to Theodore and Rozena (Feik) Betts, he had been a lifelong Crawford County resident. A 1952 graduate of Tiro High School, he married Patricia Charlene Artz on June 10, 1955 in Sulphur Springs United Church of Christ.

Lloyd was a retired farmer and worked 56 years at the former North Electric Co./Peco II retiring in 2002. After his retirement he delivered the Bucyrus Telegraph Forum for several years.

He was a member of the Tiro United Methodist Church and an excellent speaker who would preach a sermon whenever the need arose. A former Cub Scout leader, he was a former member of the Tiro Lions Club and recipient of the State Farmer FFA Degree.

Farming was Lloyd's passion - he enjoyed working with old tractors and was a man who could fix anything even making parts for equipment. He was a true family man who loved each member of his family.

Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Patricia Charlene Betts of Tiro; one son, Daniel (Sandy) Betts of Chillicothe; one daughter, Jeanise Miller of Tiro; seven grandchildren, Shannon, Linette, Brian, Rachelle, Natasha, James and Sarah; five great-grandchildren, Ashley, Emily, Alyssa, Kaden and Mason; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Elsie Ann Wechter of New Washington, Sandy (Rev. Don) Neumann of Bucyrus, John Kaple of Shelby, Leslie (Mary) Artz of Willard and Larry (Bonnie) Artz of Tiro; special extended family, Basil Gillespie and Scott Hurd; his faithful dog, Boomer; nieces, nephews and other relatives.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two sons, Joseph and Douglas Betts; son-in-law, James Miller; his sister, Myra Jane Betts; and in-laws, Linda Kaple and Louis Wechter.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM, Saturday, June 14, 2014 at the Tiro United Methodist Church. Rev. Jay Scott will officiate with interment in Greenlawn Cemetery, Plymouth. Friends may call at the Barkdull Funeral Home in Shelby on Friday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 PM.
