Marilyn J. Solt

Bucyrus - Marilyn June (Smith) Solt, 89, of Bucyrus, Ohio passed away on April 23, 2021 in Bucyrus. Marilyn was born on May 3, 1931 in Marion, Ohio. She was the daughter of Curtis "Cy" E. and Pauline (Kennedy) Smith. Marilyn graduated from Mt. Zion High School in 1949 and The Ohio State University in 1953.

Marilyn married Dr. Robert L. Solt Jr. in 1955 in Kirkpatrick, Ohio. She taught Home Economics at the Ohio School for the Blind and at Bucyrus High School. She was a member of the Bucyrus United Methodist Church, the Bucyrus Crocus Club, TWIG One, and was a manager and buyer for the Bucyrus Community Hospital Gift Shop for many years.

She was very active in her hometown community as a volunteer, devoting her free time to the church, hospital, and many other community-oriented projects, too numerous to list. In 2010, she was recognized as a Northwest Ohio Volunteer of the Year. Her passing is truly a loss to Bucyrus and the surrounding community.

Besides devoting her time as a volunteer, she enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family, and many devoted friends who hold dear the wonderful fun-filled times they had with her.

Left to mourn her loss are her sons Robert L. (Mary Kay) Solt III of Holland, Ohio and Timothy S. (Jan) Solt of Pataskala, Ohio; grandchildren Robert L. (Shannon) Solt IV of Perrysburg, Ohio and Monica K. (Nick) Horton of Sylvania, Ohio; step-granddaughter Erica Moore of Los Angeles, California; great-grandchildren Maeve Horton and Lilly Solt; sisters-in-law Becky Smith and Doris Solt; and many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her loving husband Bob, her parents, her siblings Barbara (Robert) Doe and Charles Smith, her in-laws Robert L. Solt and Grace (Rinehart) Solt, as well as her brother-in-law Dr. Charles Solt.

Should public wish to attend in person, her family will receive friends from 10 - 11:25 am on Tuesday, April 27 at Wise Funeral Service with her service to follow at 11:30 am with Pastor Brad Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery.
