FITZGIBBONS-Albert Joseph Jr. "Bert" Age 89, passed away peacefully on January 21, 2008 in his apartment at Spring Meadows of Trumbull. Mr. Fitzgibbons was born in Buffalo, NY on May 8, 1918, son of the late Albert J. and Annabelle (Hatten) Fitzgibbons Sr. A resident of Buffalo from 1918 until 2003, he was active in the Knights of Columbus, New York State Bar Association and the Buffalo Yacht Club. He was a member of St. Mark's Church for over 50 years and St. John the Baptist Church in Kenmore for several years. He moved to Connecticut in 2002 to live closer to his children. Bert Fitzgibbons was graduated from Bennett High School, Canisius College and University of Buffalo School of Law. He served as a Lieutenant in the US Navy in World War II (1942-1945), where he was assigned duty in Europe and the Pacific and was honorably discharged as a Lieutenant. Bert was an entrepreneur. After the war, he was in a partnership with Skip Ziegler to convert WWII cargo planes into passenger airliners, later, he was a partner in a Buffalo law firm and founded a real estate firm named Central Park Real Estate. He later served as Assistant County Attorney for the County of Erie on family matters. He retired twenty-five years ago. Mr. Fitzgibbons is survived by his son Albert Joseph Fitzgibbons, III (Trey) of Greenwich , CT, daughters Marcia Ann Fitzgibbons of Monroe, CT, Elizabeth Jane Fitzgibbons Woodall of Norwalk, CT, Susan Marie Fitzgibbons (Stephen) Meszkat of New Canaan, CT, Mary Louise Fitzgibbons of New York City. Daughter Mary Sharon Fitzgibbons McDermid of Buffalo , NY pre-deceased Albert J. Fitzgibbons, Jr. in 1996. Thirteen grandchildren: Edward J McDermid (Trey), Mary Ellen McDermid, Daniel McDermid of Buffalo, NY, Brendan McDermid and Colin McDermid of New York City; Betsy Fitzgibbons of London, Albert J. Fitzgibbons, IV (Tad) of Minneapolis, Kerry Fitzgibbons of New York City; Matthew Woodall of Los Angeles, CA, Jenna Woodall Bourgeois of Wallingford, CT; Stephen Meszkat of New Canaan, CT, Deirdre Meszkat of New York City; Brian Fitzgibbons of Monroe, CT. Four great-grandchildren: Mackenzie McDermid, "EJ" McDermid of Buffalo, NY; Alexandra Fitzgibbons and Sean Fitzgibbons of Minneapolis, MN . Mr. Fitzgibbons was predeceased in 1990 by his wife Elizabeth Genevieve Schlotzer Fitzgibbons in 1990 and by his sister, Betty Ann (Fitzgibbons) Coughlin in 1997. Bert enjoyed his family, friends and a good time. Bert and Betty were known for their holiday parties and loved to dance. A Mass of Christian Burial was held for Albert J. Fitzgibbons, Jr. at St. Stephen Church, Trumbull, CT on January 24. He was buried next to his beloved wife Elizabeth in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Kenmore, NY .
