Age 99, of Chestnut Street, Forestville, died at her residence, with her family by her side. She was born in Buffalo, the daughter of the late Joseph and Ruth (Laughlin) Wouk. Alice was a graduate of the former Kensington High School in Buffalo, Class of 1944. Wife of the late Gerald "Bud" S. McCarthy, mother of Michael (Lydia) McCarthy, Nadine McCarthy, Sean McCarthy, Colin (Francine) McCarthy, Eileen (Bernard) Feldmann, Brian (Nadine) McCarthy, Nancy McCarthy, Nora (Scott) Gilman, and mother-in-law of Yvonne McCarthy. Predeceased by a son Kevin McCarthy, infant brother William Wouk, brother Joseph Wouk, and two granddaughters-Lauren & Theresa Gilman. Friends are welcome to call at Riles & Woolley Funeral Home, 39 Main Street, Forestville on Tuesday from 2-4 & 7-9 PM from where Prayer Services will be held Wednesday morning at 9:15 AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial from Faith Community Our Lady of Mt. Carmel RC Church, 165 Central Avenue, Silver Creek, at 10 o'clock with Rev. Daniel Fiebelkorn officiating. Interment will follow in in Forestville Cemetery. That beautiful smile hasn´t changed in half a century. I grew up at Kensington and Bailey and remember that my parents, Sid & Dorothy Clough, knew Alice and Bud. I never knew them well but when I moved back to the neighborhood in 1970 for grad school I used to run into Alice at the grocery store. I always welcomed the conversation that followed. She always had a sweet serenity about her and we enjoyed exchanging inquiries about our families. When I saw the photo today I recognized her and recalled her lovely demeanor and hope her later years were happy. I am guessing she was a mother to remember and I hope those memories are a blessing for her large family now.
