Beloved wife of the late John; dear mother of Leslie (William Jr.) Ronan, Eric (Karen), and Craig (Maria Peterson); cherished grandma of Mallory (Steve), Danielle (Jim), John (Kate), Adam, Alyssa, Andrew, Cate, and Claire; great-grandma of Charlie and Jimmy; sister of Ron (Marie) Kazmierczak; also survived by nieces; nephews; and special friend Sharon Arnesen. Visitation Sunday, Nov. 16, 3-6PM at the PACER FUNERAL HOME, INC., 2275 George Urban Blvd., Depew (2 blocks east of Dick Rd.), where prayers will be said Monday at 9:30AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Martha Parish at 10AM. Alice was a foreign language teacher for Amherst Central Schools, fluent in 7 languages. She was past-President of FLEC and a held various positions in the Quota Club. After retiring, she was a reader for the blind and travelled the world with her husband including favorite destinations of Alaska, Africa, Australia, Panama Canal, Canadian Rockies, France and of course Poland, where she and John taught English to students. Alice had a deep Catholic faith and was involved with the St. Martha Parish food Pantry and Ladies Guild. Alice was my first professional contact when I moved to WNY from the Midwest. In fact, I was once a substitute teacher for her at Amherst Middle School. Just one day. I left her a note, thanking her for leaving such clear lesson plans for her French students. It was a positive experience for me.
Months later, I met her at a professional meeting - the Western New York Foreign Language Educators Council. Alice and Mary Alice Seagrave encouraged me to join and get involved. Next, they suggested I join the NYS Association of Foreign Language Teachers; I followed in their footsteps as a Board member.
Were it not for Alice's kindness and encouragement, I would not have made the professional and personal connections that have lasted over 4 decades. I am truly grateful to have memories of Alice as we planned our annual WNY Foreign Language Fairs, poster contests, teacher conferences and more.
She recounted stories of her family members as they grew up, her travels with John and experiences teaching English in Poland.
She had a profound influence on me. I want your family to know how much I appreciated knowing her. My deepest sympathies to you all.
