Anthony Sammarco

1938 - 2025

Of Lockport, NY, passed away peacefully on September 8, 2025, at the age of 87. Born on August 4, 1938, Anthony was a lifelong resident of Lockport and a well-known public figure, contributing his expertise and guidance in matters affecting the hometown that he loved. He earned his Bachelor's Degree from Canisius College in Buffalo, NY, and went on to build a long and successful career in sales and industrial group purchasing. Anthony served as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Service Initiatives, Inc. In addition, he was a talented entrepreneur who successfully opened and operated several beloved Lockport restaurants and watering holes, including The Penny Lane, The Copper Penny, and The Friar and Thief. A gregarious man, Tony loved meeting new people and spending time with his many friends. He was deeply proud of his community and contributed to its vibrancy through both his professional endeavors and his personal warmth. Tony is survived by his loving daughters, Andrea Lee Sammarco (Scott Sackett) and Tracy Dale Sammarco, and by his cherished grandchildren, Maxwell Alexander Kunz and Chase Lee Kunz. He is also survived by his brothers, Cono Sammarco (Joyce Heal), Joseph Sammarco, Samuel Sammarco (Suzanne Cross), and Albert Sammarco, along with many cherished nieces and nephews who adored their uncle. Tony was predeceased by his parents, Joseph Sammarco and Santa Giuffre Sammarco, of Italy; his brother, James Sammarco; and his sisters, Josephine Ficarra (James Ficarrra) and Theresa Blackley (Richard Blackley). Tony will be remembered as a devoted father, proud grandfather, beloved brother, and loyal friend. His legacy of hard work, generosity, and joyful spirit will live on in all who knew him. Family and friends are invited to attend a mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Peace in Clarence, NY on Thursday, October 9, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in Anthony's memory may be made to Niagara Hospice, Inc. or Canisius College of Buffalo, NY.
