Beloved husband of Donna (nee Nowicki); devoted father of Alison (Derek Rowell) Whelan and Katie (Robert) Derrick; loving grandfather of Grace, Colin, Chloe, and Isaac; dearest brother of the late Kathy Vavra and late Timothy Conley; also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins. Family will be present Monday 3-7 PM at the PIETSZAK FUNERAL HOME, 2400 William Street where a funeral service will follow at 7 PM. Daniel retired as a Detective with the Cheektowaga Police Department after 32 years of service. I had the pleasure of meeting Dan in high school at Bishop Neumann. I vividly recall him showing me a photo of this girl from Sloan he liked named Donna in class and how excited he was to be going out with her. Fast forward to our band "Infinity". It was comprised of Dan as our lead singer, and classmates Harvey Murello, Dan's cousin Chris, my brother Pat, myself, and John Gostowski and later Doug Fields (both from Maryvale HS) on drums. My goodness what great times we had, and lifetime memories made playing at venues all around Western New York. After we graduated, we all seemed to have gone our separate ways, but always enjoyed each other's company at each and every 5-year high school reunion, and later the "Summer Parties" hosted by our mutual friend Mike Deuser. Years later I began to play in the Bishop Neumann golf tournaments, and learned Dan was a decent golfer. I reached out to him, and for years he played with Larry Gruber, my brother Pat and me. As Mike Davis displayed, we even won a few "Dewey" tournaments along the way. In our later years we also formed a group of friends who went out to lunch on occasion and enjoyed sharing memories along with current family news with each other. Dan always shared the latest news of his two beloved daughters Alison and Katie, and later their spouses and of course the grandchildren he and Donna were blessed with. Dan was one of the most wonderful people those of us who knew him well could call "friend". In all my years and all the conversations, I honestly cannot recall him saying a bad word about anyone. Overall great guy who is already missed by all of us who had the distinct pleasure of sharing at least part of our life with him. RIP my friend.

I remember all the times we played golf together with my dad and you would give your pro tips which I would promptly misuse to slice my drive into the woods. I was a bad student. I hope the fairways are nice and green wherever you are.
His team won many tournaments.

I am so sad to hear of Dan's passing. He was a classmate of mine from Bishop Neumann 1968. He was a great guy, very popular, and a terrific golfer. So glad that we reconnected at our reunions and golf outings. Rest in peace my friend.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this difficult time. Dan was a great man and will be missed. Keep the memories. We have quite a few like Gene helping build your cabin, the tornado that went through but our tent stayed up. Had a lot of laughs through the years.

I remember serving with Dan in the U.S. Army Reserves 365th General Hospital unit in the early 1970s. We helped doing eye exams on prospective military school cadets at the old Emergency Hospital on Pine Avenue in Buffalo. He was a great guy and team mate.

I worked with Dan ( and Tim ) at Diamond Hawk golf course. Both were such nice guys and so proud of their family I will miss them both.

I recall getting on the police department 50 years ago with Dan and attending the police academy with him everyday. I look forward to his jokes. Dan could really tell the jokes and then also through the next 30 years. Working with him on the job was very enjoyable. Rest in peace my friend

May your hearts soon be filled with wonderful memories of joyful times together as you celebrate a life well lived. I had many laughs with Dan at the AppleTree Business Park. The picture truly shows how he lived his life with a great big smile while wearing a shirt that reminds me of Jimmy Buffett.
