It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Daniel Paul Schaefer, M.D., F.A.C.S., at the age of 71. A native of Buffalo, New York, Dr. Schaefer was a distinguished surgeon, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He was also a dedicated educator and a honored member of the medical community. Dr. Schaefer dedicated his life to the field of ophthalmology and oculofacial plastic and reconstructive surgery, earning the respect of colleagues and the gratitude of countless patients. Beyond his professional achievements, Dr. Schaefer enjoyed flying single engine airplanes, motorcycles, scuba diving, snorkeling, traveling, sports, skiing and music. He was a man of integrity and unwavering love for his family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Arthur J. Schaefer and Elizabeth Ann "Betty" Schaefer. He is survived by his beloved wife, Marlene Ann Schaefer, and daughters Dawn Marie Jex, Jamie Lea Schaefer-Poling (Daniel Paul Poling), and Alyce Daniela Schaefer-Brooks (Andrew Eric Brooks). He was a cherished grandfather to Danni Elizabeth Jex, Liviana Faye Poling, and Quinton Eric Brooks, and he was eagerly awaiting the arrival of his fourth grandchild (Brooks).He is also survived by his loving siblings, A. Dale Schaefer, Janet Marie Sebastian, and Nancy Beth Murray. Family and Friends may call Friday February 28th from 3:00 pm to 7:00pm at PERNA DENGLER ROBERTS Funeral Home at 1671 Maple Road, Williamsville, NY 14221. Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial March 1st, 9am at Our Lady of Victory National Shrine and Basilica at 767 Ridge Rd, Lackawanna, NY 14218. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to ASOPRS Foundation (https://asoprsfdn.memberclicks.net/daniel_schaefer), in honor of his lifelong dedication to serving others. My deepest sympathy to his family. Dr. Schaefer was my eye doctor for many years after his father retired. He was a kind and gentle man and an excellent surgeon. May he rest peacefully in the arms of our Lord.

Marlene and Family,
I was sadden to hear of the passing of Dr. Dan Schaefer. We worked together at St. Joe's in the OR. I scrubbed and worked along side of Dr. Dan for many of his cases.
He was a very good Dr. to his patients and us workers. Still remember the Christmas parties and oh what fun and laughs we all had.

My family grew up across the street from the Schaefers on Smallwood Drive. I remember Danny´s kind manner and smile when I would visit Janet and Nancy. I am so sorry for your loss. The Schaefer family is in my thoughts and prayers. My condolences to all of the family.

I am very sorry to hear of Dr. Schaefer's passing. He treated my mother who was in her late eighties at the time. I remember him fondly and with much gratitude as he was always kind, patient and attentive to mom during a very difficult time for her. My thoughts and prayers are with his family.

I am so saddened to hear of Dr. Schaefer's passing. He was a great physician that helped me greatly with my eye problems when others couldn't. I'm sure he will be missed.
