David Belasic Obituary

Age 90, of Cheektowaga, N.Y., was called to his heavenly home June 15, 2025. He was a retired pastor of the Lutheran Church; husband of Joy Mae (Halverson), formerly of Sheboygan, Wis.; father of Mark (Shawn Russell) Belasic of Chagrin Falls, Ohio, Mary (Steve) Hackett of Santa Rosa, Calif., and John (Jacqueline) Belasic of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio; grandfather of Caitlin, Alexandra (Travis), and Grey Hackett; and great-grandfather of Graham Hackett Camacho, all of Oakland, Calif. He was the brother of the late Lawrence (Shirley) Belasic of Zephyr Hills, Fla., the late Bonnie Belasic of Racine, Wis., Sally McKinney and Toni Lowe of Minneapolis, Minn., and Alan Belasic of Racine, Wis. He was a graduate of Racine Lutheran High School, Racine, Wis., and Valparaiso University, Valparaiso, Ind., and served as a medic in the US Army (1954-57). He was a graduate of Concordia Lutheran Theological Seminary (1963), Springfield, Ill., Whitman College (MA), Spokane, Wash., and earned his Doctor of Ministry from Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary. He served as pastor at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Spokane, Wash., Redeemer Lutheran Church in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio; staff member and then President of the Eastern District Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod in Buffalo, N.Y., until his retirement in 2000. Funeral services will be held in the coming months. Memorials can be made to Pioneer on the Lake & Retreat Center, 9324 Lake Shore Road, Angola, N.Y. 14006. Sad to hear of Pastor B's passing. Mark and I were best of friends growing up and stayed in contact until later in life. Dave and Joy were like a 2nd set of parents and he was always a highly respected man of the community. If Mark or Mary or John are reading this please reach out to me...

So sorry to hear about David´s passing. We were neighbors way back in Spokane. I grew up with Mark, Mary, and John. They were great friends and the best neighbors! We were all so sad they moved back east but know David had gotten a great opportunity to serve there. We love you and are thoughts are with you.
