You and Donny were a strength for me as I visited my Dad everyday at Baker Manor in '04 and '05. I never saw a Mom so dedicated and determined to lift up her son after all else seemed lost. I first met Don Herbert in the early 1990's when I was working as an EMT in Buffalo. I had the privalege of working with him on several occasions, and there was no one better than Don. His dedication, compassion, and pride in his work was, and forever will be an inspiration to all, and serve as example for all to follow. May the Lord be with the Herbert family and guide them through this difficult time. May he continue to watch over the brave men and women of the BFD.

Gerry, You truly are an inspiration to everyone. You and your late husband would spend countless hours every day with your believed son. Pushing him through the halls of Father Baker Manor. You provided him with a foundation that I stronly believe kept him alive all these years. You deserve more credit then what you have recieved. Gerry, So very sorry to hear of your son, Don's passing. When I saw him on tv in the head trauma unit at OLV, the first thing I thought of was seeing you and Don coming into the cafeteria where I was working and you both were singing "High Hopes". Just what makes that little old ant, think he'd move that rubber tree plant. Everyone knows an ant can't move a rubber tree plant. But he has high hopes, he has high hopes, he has high-apple-pie in the sky hopes. And that was you,the Mom, never giving up and Don,the Son ,trying as hard as he could to get better.The perfect song for both of you. My thoughts and prayers are with you. I had the pleasure of having minimal contact with your extrodinary family. I frequented RIC to visit my boyfriend who also suffered a TBI in an automobile accident. However, through the small contact I found Mrs. Herbert strength to be extraordinary. It is at best divine to see such strength in spirit and soul. Although I didnt know your name or your hubbies I always admired the care you both gave your son.I had a relative in the Father Baker Manor @ the time. I only knew you well enough to say hello, but my prayers were always with your son.
You visited daily and for long periods of time. I always admired your devotion to your beloved son and it was obvious you enriched his life. I believe that we are all on this earth for a purpose and Don's purpose was to prove that miracles do happen. He left the gift of hope for so many and that will be his legacy.

Dear Sue & Pat,
I'm sending prayers for all of Don's family, mom, wife, children and brothers and sisters, nieces and nephews. Sue, when my mother died your mom was so sweet, she told me how much she enjoyed spending time with her at all of your get togethers.
We all know that our firefighters are hero's and their families as well. We will always keep everyone of them in our prayers, even the ones that have already been taken from us, my grandfather, Michael J Sheehan was one of the many.
We should not forget the many that are carrying on the tradition.

I did not have the pleasure of knowing Don, but he became an inspiration to my family. Our friend in Toronto has been in a coma since Oct.1995 due to a fall. Since Don's miracle story was released his family and friends were able to feel hope once again.Thank you for sharing Don's story, it truly was a miracle.God bless you!

My dearest sympahy goes out to Donny's mother for rasing such a wonderful gentleman. A man who has touched the life of so many people, not just at home but around the world.
