Gerry,
You and Donny were a strength for me as I visited my Dad everyday at Baker Manor in '04 and '05. I never saw a Mom so dedicated and determined to lift up her son after all else seemed lost. Thank You for your friendship. You and Donny will go on living in the hearts of everyone here and the world. I will miss him greatly. Till we all meet again. Much Love, Lois

To the Family & Friends of Don,
Love Lives On
Those we love are never really lost to us--
we feel them in so many special ways--
through friends they always cared about
and dreams they left behind,
in beauty that they added to our days...
in words of wisdom we still carry with us
and memories that never will be gone...
Those we love
are never really lost to us--
for everywhere their special love lives on

I first met Don Herbert in the early 1990's when I was working as an EMT in Buffalo. I had the privalege of working with him on several occasions, and there was no one better than Don. His dedication, compassion, and pride in his work was, and forever will be an inspiration to all, and serve as example for all to follow. May the Lord be with the Herbert family and guide them through this difficult time. May he continue to watch over the brave men and women of the BFD.

Gerry, You truly are an inspiration to everyone. You and your late husband would spend countless hours every day with your believed son. Pushing him through the halls of Father Baker Manor. You provided him with a foundation that I stronly believe kept him alive all these years. You deserve more credit then what you have recieved. You are a remarkable woman, and through this difficult time - first losing your husdand and now your beloved son I think you deserve some credit for what you havd done for your son. You are a true inspirtation to all. My prayers are with you Gerry.

Dear Mrs. Herbert (Gerry), John, Sue, Terri, Mike, Marie, Jeannie and all -
The just man, though he die early, shall be at rest. For the age that is honorable comes not with the passing of time nor can it be measured in terms of years. Rather, understanding, is the crown for men. He who pleased God was loved; having become perfect in a short while, he reached the fullness of a long career; for his soul was pleasing to the Lord, therefore He sped him out of the midst of wickedness. But the people saw and did not understand, nor did they take this into account, that God's grace and mercy are with His elect, and He watches over His holy ones.
From the Book of Wisdom
God Bless All of You

Gerry, So very sorry to hear of your son, Don's passing. When I saw him on tv in the head trauma unit at OLV, the first thing I thought of was seeing you and Don coming into the cafeteria where I was working and you both were singing "High Hopes". Just what makes that little old ant, think he'd move that rubber tree plant. Everyone knows an ant can't move a rubber tree plant. But he has high hopes, he has high hopes, he has high-apple-pie in the sky hopes. And that was you,the Mom, never giving up and Don,the Son ,trying as hard as he could to get better. The perfect song for both of you. My thoughts and prayers are with you. I'll also share MY favorite prayer, Lord, remind me that nothing is going to happen to me today that you and I together can't handle. Take good care of yourself. I send my love, Peggy[McMahon]Matwijko

To The Family of Don Herbert
May God instill peace in your hearts. You must know that your strength was inspirational to individuals you didn't even know. I had the pleasure of having minimal contact with your extrodinary family. I frequented RIC to visit my boyfriend who also suffered a TBI in an automobile accident. However, through the small contact I found Mrs. Herbert strength to be extraordinary. It is at best divine to see such strength in spirit and soul. I pray that God will keep you all, and that your hearts will remain ever strong. Please know you have done more than you know or realize, you have re-stored faith to some and touched the hearts of many. Peace and Courage dear friends~Rachael Magallan

Dear Gerry,
Although I didnt know your name or your hubbies I always admired the care you both gave your son.I had a relative in the Father Baker Manor @ the time. I only knew you well enough to say hello, but my prayers were always with your son.
You visited daily and for long periods of time. I always admired your devotion to your beloved son and it was obvious you enriched his life. I believe that we are all on this earth for a purpose and Don's purpose was to prove that miracles do happen. He left the gift of hope for so many and that will be his legacy.
God bless and keep you and the entire family.Eternal rest grant unto him o Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him....

Dear Gerry,
My heartfelt deepest sympathy on your great loss. I will miss the opportunity to hold Don's hand, while he sang songs with you and I especially those Christmas Songs. His "thumbs up" gesture when I asked how he was. Just watching you and Don "communicate" as well/often, the smiles he had whenever you spoke his name. A TRULY LOVED AND CHERISHED SON. You not only were continually upbeat around and for Don, but I felt very uplifted just seeing the two of you. You and Don have been in my nightly prayers and will be forever. Hugs to Gerry and Don.

Dear Linda and family,
Our heartfelt condolensces are extended to you. We love you and are saddened by your loss. Just try to focus on all the great memories you have shared as a family. Also, remember that our life on earth is borrowed time, and that one day you will all be together again. May you find comfort in the arms of Jesus. Love you and are praying for you, too.
Love, Rosanne & Chris

I am a friend of Sue and Pat Haefner. Don touched many peoples hearts along the way and had a profound effect on others he did not even know. A true hero in my eyes. God Bless Don and his family.
