Donald Ledwin Obituary

Ledwin - Donald T.

June 17, 1932 - March 14, 2024

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Donald Thomas Ledwin at the age of 91 on Thursday, March 14, 2024. Don was born in Buffalo on June 17, 1932, to Kenneth and Rose (Herma) Ledwin and enjoyed being a big brother to his beloved "baby" sister, the late Marlene Borodzik. An alumnus of Canisius High School (Class of 1950), he was immensely proud of his service in the Marine Corps from 1950 to 1952 during the Korean conflict. He was honorably discharged after achieving the rank of Sergeant and never missed a chance to share a "Semper Fi" with a fellow Marine of any age. Following his military service, Don graduated from the University at Buffalo School of Pharmacy. He spent his entire 38-year career as a retail pharmacist in Western New York. Don married the love of his life, the late Josephine Ann Belasik, in 1955 and shared with her six children (Karen, Barbara, Donna, Mary, D. Thomas and Mark), nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild. A 64-year resident of West Seneca and a long-time parishioner of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Don was an active school district volunteer during his children's younger years, including a term as PTA president at Potters Road Elementary. He was a lifelong Buffalo sports fan and an avid golfer to the end, playing weekly as a regular at Eden Valley Golf Course, achieving a hole-in-one at age 77. He was also a history buff, especially on World War II and the American Civil War, as well as a fish fry aficionado, and he never missed a chance to dance the polka or share a good "dad" joke. Don chose to donate his body to the Anatomical Gift Program at the University at Buffalo School of Medicine. The family plans to hold a celebration of life at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Marine Corps Heritage Foundation, Hospice and Palliative Care Buffalo, or a charity of your choice.
