E. SNOWDEN Obituary

SNOWDEN - E. Jane
Math Teacher and Volunteer, of the Town of Amherst died at home November 14, 2012 from complications of Alzheimer's. Mrs. Snowden was born in Philadelphia, PA on March 26, 1933 to Oscar and Ruth Wiederhold. She moved with her family to the Washington D.C. area where she excelled at school and life. Mrs. Snowden took pride in her status as one of a handful of female students at the University of Maryland's School of Engineering from which she graduated in 1955. Mrs. Snowden was a dedicated and outstanding teacher of Mathematics and Computers at Amherst High School and Junior High School where she taught for 25 years. She especially encouraged girls to consider math-oriented careers. Mrs. Snowden did many things very well. In addition to being a wife, mother, teacher and friend to many, she volunteered with the Presbyterian Church, Girl Scouts, Renaissance House and Meals on Wheels. Family and friends benefitted from her skills as a seamstress, knitter, cook, picture framer, furniture restorer, gardener, bridge player and organizer. After retirement Mrs. Snowden enjoyed traveling with family and hiking in many of the national parks. She was a proud and devoted grandmother of 11 fantastic grandchildren: teachers, entrepreneurs, musicians, artists, adventurers, a pilot and a Rubik's cube master. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Snowden was preceded in death by her sister, Anne McCroddan. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Hugh H. Snowden; daughters, Karen (Preston) Roberts and Valerie (Mark) Geraci; sons, Scott (Vilma), Todd (Gina) and Glenn (fiancee Nelly) and 11 grandchildren. The family will be present on Saturday, November 17, 2012 from 1-4 PM at the (Amherst Chapel) AMIGONE FUNERAL HOME, INC., 5200 Sheridan Dr. (corner of Hopkins Rd.) where a Funeral Serice will follow at 4 PM. In lieu of flowers, a donation in memory of Jane Snowden may be given to the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra, Haven House of Buffalo or Kids Escaping Drugs.
