Ella OSTERMAN Obituary

OSTERMAN - Ella Nora Kenyon Born on July 10, 1920, in Artesia, Mississippi. A resident of Williamsville for 64 years, she passed away peacefully in her home on April 21, 2010, after a brief bout with pancreatic cancer. Married for over 57 years, she was predeceased by her husband Maurice Osterman on October 21, 1999. She leaves five children: Linda Osterman Hamid (wife of the late Allan H. Hamid) of Woodbury, Connecticut; David C. Osterman of Tennessee and Florida; Frederic J. Osterman and his wife Barbara of Powell, Ohio; Jeffrey C. Osterman of Williamsville, New York and Bonnie B. Moore and her husband Michael of Colleyville, Texas. A graduate of Lancaster High School in 1937, Ella spent her first 25 years in Lancaster, NY. She was in the retailing business there with the Israel family (Dalton Apparel) for 11 years. As a member of the Preceptor Zeta Chapter of the Buffalo Council of Beta Sigma Phi International Sorority for 62 years, she was active in charitable events and made many lifelong friends. She was a past director of the Federation of Women's Club and a Red Cross volunteer for 29 years in the blood program. She enjoyed being a Brownie Scout leader and also championed children's welfare causes. Ella was a former member of the Lancaster Historical Society, Crippled Children's Guild and the Junior Philharmonic. An avid gardener, she adored flowers and loved spending joyous time in her garden. Ella Osterman was predeceased by her sister Ruth O'Neill and brother Giles "Jack" Kenyon, Jr. She was a loving grandmother to Timothy J. Osterman of Williamsville and Lindsay Langholz, Lauren Langholz and Samuel Moore of Colleyville, Texas. She is survived by beloved nephews Robert O'Neill and Timothy O'Neill of Lancaster, NY; dearest nieces Barbara Klausner of Passaic, New Jersey, Elaine Peck of Latham, New York, Mary Lou Perry of Dansville, New York; several more nieces and many faithful friends. Family service arrangements are private. The family would like to especially thank Isabel and Pastor Rick of the Buffalo Hospice for their great kindness. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice Foundation of WNY Inc., 225 Como Park Blvd., PO Box 590, Buffalo, NY 14240-0590.
