On Tuesday, November 9, 2021, Ellen Waring Striebich, beloved wife and wonderful mother and grandmother, passed away at the age of 86. Ellen was born in 1935 to Raymond and Clara Waring, and lived on a small farm in Derby, NY with three brothers (Ray, Rich, Tom) and a sister (Jeanette). She graduated from Albright Knox Art School and Buffalo State Teachers College in 1960, and taught art classes at Silver Creek Junior High. She met her soulmate, Nelson Striebich, at a Catholic social club in Buffalo, and they married in Evans on July 27, 1963. They raised two daughters and two sons. After living in Buffalo and Grand Island for several years, the couple spent 43 years in the hills of Orchard Park, and the last few years near family in Henrietta (outside Rochester). Ellen was a loving mom and dedicated wife; a strong, smart and tenacious woman who loved nothing more than chatting with friends and strangers alike: no conversation was ever too long, too obscure nor too peripheral to disinterest Ellen. She was an artist, a news junkie, a genealogy fan and a local history buff. She loved art, nature, and architecture, and was fascinated by all the details of life. In her later years, Ellen often stayed up all night devouring the Buffalo News, reading historical fiction, and communicating with old and new friends on social media. Ellen was caring, and made it her mission to help others with their struggles, offering advice and assistance wherever she could. She is survived by her children: Sally (Wayne) Howard, Susan (Kevin) Starks, Jim (Christine) Striebich and Tom (Shannon) Striebich, and grandchildren Lauren and Hannah Starks; Ellie, Sofie, Gracie and Jack Striebich. The family will be present on Sunday (TODAY) from 3-7 PM at the (Hamburg Chapel) JOHN J. KACZOR FUNERAL HOME, 5453 Southwestern Blvd (Corner of Rogers Rd.). A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday at 10 AM at SS Peter & Paul R.C. Church in Hamburg. Interment will follow at St. Vincent's Cemetery.
