Emily KIMBALL Obituary

KIMBALL - Emily Nelson Aged 100, died peacefully on Tuesday, September 8th, 2009 in Litchfield, CT. Born in Buffalo, NY on February 2, 1909, she attended The Park School of Buffalo and The Buffalo Seminary, continuing her education at Smith College, Tyler School of Fine Arts in Philadelphia for her BFA and MFA and New York University for her EdD. A gifted teacher, she valued the arts as fundamental in a child's eduction and growth. She taught art at The Park School and Metarie Country Day School in New Orleans. She was art consultant, teacher and supervisor of various art programs in Pennsylvania and Connecticut, including many years educating future teachers at Southern Connecticut State University in New Haven. For several years she was chairperson of the Connecticut State Committee on Art Education. She was the daughter of Maulsby Kimball, a founder of the Park School and Harriet Stockton Kimball. She is pre-deceased by her brothers, Stockton Kimball, Maulsby Kimball Jr. and David Kimball. She will be missed by her nieces Caroline Haun of Linden PA, Margaret Chapin of Lancaster, OH, Rosalind Moulton of Columbia MO, extended family and loving aid, Lynette James. She is rememberd for her open mind and great curiosity to say nothing of her wonderful sense of humor. Her family and friends celebrate her long and rich life with joy, appreciation and love. Contributions in her memory may be made to The Park School.
