(1936 - 2022) Fred S. Nadel of Amherst, New York, peacefully passed away September 16, 2022 at age 86, joining his beloved wife Doris, who died on March 21, 2022 at 96. Fred was defined by Doris; Doris by Fred. They were inseparable for over 50 years. Their lives were marked by birthday and anniversary parties with friends and family. They were expert ballroom dancers, gliding across the floor at the Amherst dance club. They traveled the world, hiked, sailed, and played tennis together. Fred never stopped moving and played ping pong every week against all comers. Fred was born in Hamburg, Germany, finding refuge from Hitler's Germany in the United States. Fred grew up in Springfield, Illinois and went to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, graduating in 1958, returning often for reunions. Fred also attended Stanford Business School and, after a career in industry, opened a successful managing consulting firm in Amherst, New York. Fred was a leader in his community - serving Rotary International (and earning national recognition) and as President of a local symphony. With Doris, Fred enjoyed the symphony and opera, attending performances at Chautauqua, Buffalo, and in Toronto. When they moved to Canterbury Woods in the early 2000s, they became beloved and active members of that community. Fred was a devoted son to his late parents, Eric and Irma Nadel, and brother to his late brother Jeffrey Lee Nadel. A small burial service will be held at Sunset Memorial in St. Louis, Missouri on April 22, 2023 at 11:00 AM. Thoughts and prayers at that time are welcome.
