Passed away peacefully at his residence in Durham, NC on December 2, 2019, at the age of 90. A visitation will be held at 10 AM on Friday, August 6, 2021 for Herb and Marly (Zenner) Forbach, his wife of 63 years, at the Dietrich Funeral Home, 2840 Kensington Ave., Amherst, NY. A Masonic service to be held at 11 AM, with prayer service at 11:30 AM. Interment immediately following services at the Williamsville Cemetery. Born in 1929 to Herbert, Sr. and Edith Forbach, Herb resided in the Buffalo area for virtually his entire life, until he and Marly moved to North Carolina in 2015 to be closer to their children, and grandchildren. A graduate of Kensington High School and Cornell University, Herb served in the Army during the Korean conflict and was awarded the Combat Infantryman's Badge. Until his retirement, Herb operated Forbach's Florist Shop on Kensington Ave, a business founded by his grandfather in 1903. Herb was a source of continuing advice and counsel on gardening. Always an outgoing, gregarious person, Herb was an active Mason for more than 60 years, associated with Renaissance Lodge #1188, and previously, Transportation Lodge #842. Marly and Herb traveled considerably both in the US and abroad, often in conjunction with florist association conventions, and reunions with the Army's 5th Regimental Combat Team, his unit in Korea. In his retirement, Herb could often be seen driving his beloved 1949 MG TC, a car he owned for 65 years, around the streets of Amherst. In the early days, he and Marly would take the MG to car rallies throughout Western New York. During his retirement, they continued to take the MG to various car club meets, and the MG followed Herb to North Carolina. Herb is survived by his daughter Gretchen (Edward) Castorina of Durham, NC; granddaughters Olivia and Fiona Castorina, both of Durham; his son, Eric (Nancy) Forbach of Leland, NC; grandson David Forbach of Ashburn, Virginia, and granddaughter Melissa (Bryan) Riedel of Beaufort, NC, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
