Liz and family: How do I remember your father? The dinner parties. The many, many dinner parties hosted at our home. As a young child, I would sit movementless at the top of the stairs, peeking through the banister at the arrival of each beautiful couple. Women in pearls and furs, men in suits; the muffled conversations with everyone talking at once. The scent of perfume, aftershave, a casserole in the oven, Camels and Viceroys. Clinking ice filled glasses. So much laughter. I learned the mysterious (and forbidden) first names as everyone entered the party as my dad would call out their names. "Wim" and "RoyBoy" and John ... friends since forever. All of them now clinking those glasses in heaven, and sharing stories about the good old days. Cheers to the greatest generation.
