Of Cowlesville, NY passed away at the age of 86. Jim was born in Buffalo, NY. He was the son of the late George W. and Estelle M. (Furlong) Weber. He enjoyed working on cars from the time he was a teenager, and made his living as an auto mechanic until he retired in his early 70s. In his youth he served in the National Guard before transferring over to the Army Reserves where he was a member of the 355th Chemical Company as part of the Motor Pool. For many years, Jim successfully participated in drag racing at local drag strips, as well as in Canada and Ohio. He had several race cars and in his later years he enjoyed sharing this hobby with his son Gary. Jim was an avid bowler and golfer. He was always good at anything he did. He would often enter bowling tournaments, as well as bowling in weekly leagues. During his bowling career he had a perfect 300 game at Alden Lanes. He also had several "hole in ones" on the golf course. He was a man who would give the shirt off of his back for his loved ones but would rarely ask for anything for himself. He will be dearly missed by his family. Jim is survived by his children, Gary Weber, Cheryl (Eric) Sporysz, and Chris Weber; his grandson Kyle Sporysz; and his faithful canine companion Starr. He is also survived by a sister, Nancy Weber, and a brother, Jack (Cynthia) Weber, as well as several nieces and nephews. Jim was fond of animals; memorial donations may be made to your local animal shelter in his name. Family will be present to receive friends at the CHARLES MEYER FUNERAL HOME, 13228 Broadway Alden, NY on Wednesday, March 27th from 5-7 PM. with a prayer service to follow at 7 PM.
