I had the honor of working with John when he was part of the Board of Trustees with Central Police Services. He was an advocate for modernizing technology and training for policing in WNY. Soft spoken but his words and actions were both respected by all that knew him well.

It's been an honor to be a friend and next-door neighbor to John & Shirley for the past 8 years. He was a gentle soul with an awesome laugh and sharp wit. And despite some of the difficult challenges I knew he was enduring, I never heard him complain once. How are you doing John? big cheerful smile "oh not too bad!" That was John. Better neighbors you couldn't ask for. He will be missed. Please accept my condolences.

John was my friend and a great arm wrestling champion. Remember the police picnic and our match. I won! No more levity. He was a great man and leader of his community and family. God Bless everyone and in Heaven he is watching over us.

To all the Askey family,
I extend my heartfelt and deep sympathy for the passing of Chief Askey.
I worked for Central Police Services Information systems and met
John when he was a Captain and continued working with him when he was the Chief of the Amherst Police Department as well as a member of the board of trustees for Central Police Services.
He was a big supporter of bringing computer technology to the Amherst Police Department and to all the Erie County police departments.
One of his major contributions as a CPS Board of Trustee member was an early implementation of a County wide in-car computer system for all Erie County police departments.
This was just one of many projects he helped or supported to implement technology to all Erie County police departments.
He was a very modest man and you may not even know some of his achievements.
He will be remembered by many of us who had the honor of working with him.
May he rest in peace.
Respectfully,
Peter Matheisz

John was Chief in Amherst when I was appointed chief in East Aurora in 1992. He became a friend and someone I could ask questions too as I learned the chief ropes. I will miss him.
