Dear Janice, Jackie, Judy and Mary. So sorry to hear of Jack's passing. I worked for Jack at Calspan in the 80's and 90's. I remember going to Jack shortly after he started there with a request to leave work early to see my son's Little League baseball game. Not sure of Jack's management style I was a little nervous at how he would react. I said I'd hoped he wasn't upset at the request. Jack responded "John, I'd be upset if you didn't go to your son's game". and that was Jack. Business was important yes not family always came first. Jack will be sorely missed by myself and many others

Dear Janis and Family,
I'm so saddened and shocked to hear of Jack's passing. He was a valued friend and fellow Frater at TKE and Gannon University. Back at Gannon, I met Jack through the fraternity, and we had many great and memorial times. Some of those were driving back and forth to our homes in Buffalo via my 1960, VW Bug, our trips were full of the front seats rocking out of their rusted frames, and snowy winters on the Thru Way, cold air drifting from the floor as we viewed the road going by. Those Bug heaters were bad but even worse with the air rushing past us. We laughed and shivered all the way. Many memorable conversations about life, school and our futures.
Jack had the characteristics of a born leader, his mire presence demanded respect. When he spoke or had a stand as President of TKE, we listened, we knew our fraternity was in good hands. He had integrity and would always do the right thing. Because of him and the men in Tau Kappa Epsilon, we gained respect and admiration on that campus, and those Fraters remain close to this day due to his continued leadership.
We were both in ROTC at Gannon, and eventually were commissioned as Second Lieutenant's, assigned to Field Artillery. Jack was a class ahead of me and as we know went to Vietnam earning the distinction of a Silver Metal, for gallantry in action and valor above and beyond. That was no surprise to those of us who knew him. I wrote to Jack while he was there and as you would expect from him, he wrote me back advising me on becoming a good Lt. and the issues I would encounter if I was to follow him to the war. That was Jack Walter, always there for his friends and always doing something to help others. I have often said "I want to be like Jack Walter, when I grew up." A unique human being who exemplified excellence in everything he did, a beautiful family, a dedicated patriot and a man with the highest integrity. We all loved Jack Walter; he was the heart and soul of our fraternity, and he will forever be missed.
