EULOGY TO MY FRIEND, JOHN: Today is a day of sorrow and joy as we remember John. There is sadness in John's departing and joy that he is now with God. John was a wonderful father, grandfather, brother and my friend of 50 years. He served his country in the U S Air Force. He was always happy repairing things that needed fixing. He was a kind person who helped anyone who needed help. His hands were very strong and reached out to help anyone who needed help. His hands were very strong and they served many. His hands fixed anything that was fixable. If he thought something could be fixed, he took it and worked on it; even those things others were prepared to throw in the garbage. Mechanics and collecting stuff was definitely his thing. When I helped him move to South Carolina and we needed a screwdriver, we could not get to the 15 tool boxes he had packed in the front of the truck because of all the other stuff. We had to go to Walmart and buy a screwdriver even though there may have been 40 on the truck. His hands caressed his children and grandchildren and dried their tears and comforted them through life. His family was very important to him. His hands served many at the Fire Department, The VFW and Sals. His strong hands cooked for the elderly that needed his help when in lived in South Carolina. He befriended his elderly neighbors who needed assistance in everyday life. He would prepare meals for them and deliver them to their house. Those strong hands reached out to his family and friends. As we feel the emptiness of losing John, know that it is because he has taken the love of his family and friends with him. Today, John, we will remember the goodness and kindness that came through those hands. We know today those hands have reached out to touch many faces in Heaven. We will miss you John. Pray for us as we will pray for you until we meet again.

John, You were a ray of sunshine each time our paths crossed. You and your loved ones are in our prayers during this difficult time. We know you weren't ready to leave, but you can be so proud that you left your mark across Western New York and the Carolinas. From one former fellow firefighter to another, save me a piece of licorice, because I know our paths will cross again.

J.P., We are going to miss you so very much. You brought a ray of sunshine with you where ever you went. You told some really crazy jokes. You were never afraid to speak up and say what was on you mind. You called a spade a spade. You were kind and caring. You sure were a Pack Rat also. I remember so many little, neat things about you. Things that made you so special, so-- one of a kind. You had a smile and a good word for everyone you came in contact with. We really enjoyed the meals you prepared for High Point Fire Dept. in Pageland, SC. You were a Yankee as I am and Steve still declares that we eat "STRANGE" foods. Be at Peace Good Buddy. Till we meet again. Your Fellow Firefighters---Steve Yandle & Mary Killough

We are very sorry to hear about John's accident. Our paths took us in different directions, and we haven't seen him in a number of years; but we have many fond memories of the great times we had on Tyler Street -- the pool parties, campfires in the yard, watching Brian, Russell, and Robin grow up... You were such good neighbors. I also think w-a-y back to the years when Johnny, our bus driver, delivered us safely to DHS every morning. (Then he did the same for our kids too.)
We are in Florida right now and won't be able to pay our respects in person, but we want to send our deepest sympathies to the family. You are all in our thoughts and prayers. We hope your memories will help you get through this difficult time.

Big John, I had only known you for a short while but the time spent was always loud with laughter. From the very beginning of Johnny and I, you had accepted me and made your home and heart warm and welcoming to me. I will miss the card games, the oh-so-talented dinners prepared, all the jokes and ALL THE TIME SPENT... most of all your hugs and waking up to say to you "Goodmorning Sunshine!" I love you "Poppa Woods"

I am truly sorry to hear of J.P.'s accident. J.P. He was a great man, he was always willing to help others. He was one who made friends where ever he was. Many around here simply knew him as the man with the "Twizzlers", because of the licorice candy he gave every where he went! John was an asset to our community during the time he was here, our community and fire department has a space hasn't been filled since he left SC and went home to NY. We are grateful for the time J.P. spent with us. Our thougths and prayers are with you.
J.P. you will be missed, may you rest in peace.
