Phil, Kathy, Mary Ellen and Tissie:
I just heard about Joe's (Oh the heck with it - Jody's) passing. A fine man. The world needs more of him, to get things going and keep things going. And Linda and I will always appreciate Grace's arranging for us to be the host family for Lt. Dieter and Karin Panitzki of the Luftwaffe - a real pleasure and honor. All the best to all the Goodells.

To all of the Goodells-
The world is a little sadder today. I really enjoyed Mr. Goodell--what a prize he was. He loved his girls..I know that. I had the pleasure of meeting him several times and he was always a joy to be around. My daughter Ella and I are going to light a candle for him today and know that his spirit will always be here. I will pray for all of you during this very sad time, however, Mr. Goodell would probably have you celebrating his life! God Bless...Sally Graff-Osborne

I had the good fortune of knowing Joe Goodell, through my friendship with his daughter Martha. I have found personal inspiration through his drive, curiosity, intellect, and generosity. Most of all though, I will cherish my memories of his sharp wit and wonderful sense of humor. His lifelong love of playing the prankster has me fondly recalling tales of attempts at leaving an MIT mark welded to the rival's Harvard statue, the "Lion" delivered to his daughters from the zoo, and of course my own first experience of surprise birthday honors at a dinner gathering he hosted (knowing that it was not my birthday). He will be missed, but will live on forever in our memories.

I worked with Joe on the Who Does What? Committee. He demonstrated his wonderful leadership skills in making some tough decisions on downsizing libraries and restructuring the operation of County golf courses. We also shared stories of our similar travels throughout US and Canada his being in his Amtrak railway car. So sorry to see such a great man leave us too soon.

A good leader. He saved American Brass in 1985 by getting a sound union, management working agreement. This approach took the company from near deaths door to being highly profitable. Demanding but fair.
As an employee for 33 years under four ownerships I see the Goodell years as the best
