Bump,
While we didn't always see eye to eye you were my Bump. I will always remember the things that you taught me. They were hard lessons at times but life long valuable ones.
You gave me Gram and for that I can never say thank you enough. She was your soul mate as you were hers. The two of you showed the rest of us what it is supposed to be like.
You touched so many lives and you made a difference to so many people. You may not have realized the impact you made but it was imense. You will be missed by so many people. But mostly you will be missed by your family. I realized that there is noone to call Bump anymore...but there will always be a Bump in my heart. I miss you Bump and I love you.

Dear Ognibene Family,
Our family would like to send our deepest condolences to your Entire family. Though we did not know Mr. Ognibene personally, we sure felt like we did. I remember our days living in Buffalo many years ago as we would turn the T.V. on approximately at 6:00pm on Saturday evening. Together as a family we would all gather to watch "Outdoor Scene with Joe Ognibene". As it was repeated on the show we too would chant those very words. I do not recall missing one episode. Thank you Mr. Ognibene for the wonderful memories as you have touch so many lives in your own way. God bless all of your family.
Joe walk on with the Lord and the Angels now.

Dear Joe's Family;
I feel for your loss. I for one will never forget a great man like Joe. When I first met him I didn't know who he was until after he left. I owned a filling station at the time. The next time he stopped for gas is when I really realized what a great person he was. Had a long chat and we were friends from then on.
We travelled all around fishing, and doing sports shows together and with his premier Outdoors Scene TV shows. What a Pioneer! Joe will never be forgotten by my family either as he watched them grow up and somehow was a part of their lives too.
Thank You to Mary also for lending Joe to us outdoors people. Like Joe said when he retired in September 2008, his last column: "To all my readers, Thank You, it was one “helluva ride.”

While attending college in Ohio, I worked each summer with Joe at the then Niagara Falls Gazette. That was when the newsroom was loud, exciting and the smell of cigars (or Joe's pipe) filled the air. My mom worked there, too. Joe called her "Smitty," so of course, I was "Smitty's daughter." Joe is one Gazette staffer that I will always remember. Charming, with a great sense of humor, he is one of those folks you never forget. I know I won't.

The "Outdoor Scene" and weekly columns with tips/pointers in the Gazette had a strong influence on my participation in all of my outdoor pursuits, especially fishing. His leadership was a strong influence that took me to active membership with the N.R.A.A. and the work I tried to accomplish while there. Please accept my deepest sympathy.

I am deeply saddened by the passing of my dear friend and former colleague. Joe, Mary and I met at the Niagara Gazette in 1960. She was one of the best writers the Gazette ever had. Joe was a great photographer, a great writer and an all-around great guy. My condolences to the family and Joe's countless friends.

To the family of Joe O. -
Joe was a pillar in the outdoor world, especially here in Western New York. I worked alongside him for many years as a writer, also helping from time to time with his TV show. He will certainly be missed. My sincere condolences.

Mr. Ognibene's column was the only reason I would open the sportspage. When I needed to learn about how to rig a fishing line for bass or walleye, it was Joe who 'taught' me in his column. When I needed to know about goose hunting, deer hunting, grouse hunting, or ice fishing, it was again Joe who 'taught' me the "lingo" and the methods. Finally, he thought 'big', as he would not hesitate to write columns on the frightening efftects of global climate change, contaminants in the ecosystem, or species loss. I never met him, but I could tell from reading his columns that he was a good man. I am sorry for your loss.

As his stepson, I can tell you that he was a man who could do just about anything. If you told him it could not be done, he would go do it just to prove you wrong. I will always remember him showing me his new radial arm saw and slicing up the tip of his finger in the process and then blaming the blood on me on me! Way to funny!!!! As for my mother, I thank him for taking care of her for so many years. I will have a few Genny's in his memory!!!!
