Katherine Selva Obituary
Feb. 17, 1946 – Jan. 28, 2016
Katherine Selva, a retired registered nurse at Women & Children's Hospital, died unexpectedly Thursday at her home in Portland, Ore. She was 69.
Born in Germany to Hungarian parents displaced by World War II, the former Katherine Visoli came to the Buffalo area with her family at age 5. She was a graduate of Lafayette High School and earned a bachelor's degree in nursing from Keuka College in 1968.
A longtime North Buffalo resident known as Kathy, she was a nurse at Women & Children's Hospital from the early 1970s to the early 1990s. She also served for several years as a school nurse at the Cantalician Center in North Buffalo.
In retirement, Mrs. Selva renovated foreclosed homes for resale. She and her husband maintained a cabin in Colden and a winter home in Sarasota, Fla. An avid gardener and nature lover, she enjoyed hiking and sailing on Lake Erie.
She and her husband of 42 years, Joseph, co-owner of Selva Fine Carpets and Interiors on Hertel Avenue, moved to Oregon to be near their daughters in 2008. Her husband died in 2011.
Survivors include two daughters, Dr. Karin A. and Andrea Steinberg; and four grandchildren.
A memorial service in the Buffalo area will be held next summer.

growing up on the west side of buffalo with Kathy will always be apart of my life I will always be great full for. The spirit of her generosity and her friendship even when I moved to Florida we got together at her Condo in Fl and in Portland. Joe and Kathy took me on a whole day tour of Portland. They gave so much to so many . Rest in peace my friend

Andrea & family, I am so sorry for the loss of your mom. I only met her a couple times, but really enjoyed her vitality and warmth and sense of humor. I know how hard this is to lose your mother having just gone through it in December. Andrea, you said she passed exactly as she wanted. So at least that's a good thing. I wish you all the strength in the world to get through this.
