Kathryn CHERRY Obituary
(nee Berg)
Kathryn Barton Berg Cherry went to be with the angels on January 15, 2022. She passed unexpectedly at home at the age of 61. Kate was born on March 29, 1960, and lived her whole life in her hometown of Snyder, New York. She graduated from Muskingum University in 1982 as a legacy with a Bachelor's degree in Psychology and a minor in Art. After graduation, Kate found great satisfaction in her work as Activities Director of Amherst Presbyterian Nursing Home. She organized an annual Senior Olympics, inviting area elders to participate, before retiring to start a family in the early 1990s. Musically gifted, Kate delighted in playing the piano and composed songs that brought her family comfort and happiness. She was also a talented artist; her acrylic and watercolor paintings were sold in a boutique in Williamsville, NY, and continue to be enjoyed by many. Kate nurtured her backyard garden with care and could beat almost anyone in a game of Scrabble. She was most at peace when her family was gathered together and she had her "ducks in a row." Her children were her pride and joy and the life she built with her husband, J.J., was her dream. She is survived by her devoted husband of 32 years, John J. "JJ" Cherry; her children, Emily and Sara Cherry; her mother, Mary Louise Barton Berg; her sister, Susan Berg; and many siblings-in-law, nieces, nephews, and cousins. In Heaven, Kate joins her father, Donald J. Berg; her aunt, Sally Barton King; her sister-in-law, Catherine Cherry Myers; and all of her grandparents.

Kate was a lovely person. Always kind and caring. A wonderfully talented artist. I am the proud owner of two of her acrylics. She was kind enough to remark one for me. I adore her work. It makes me smile every time I gaze at them. So fortunate to have known her and to have a bit of her in my home. May she Rest in Peace. Much love and comfort to her family and all of her loved ones.

Dear John, Emily, Sara, and family, i just found out about Kate this afternoon from your neighbor Jane and I am so very sorry for the loss of your beloved wife and mother. my mother, Alicia, adored her as her next door neighbor, as I did also when I lived with my mother from 2010 - 2011. we loved our chats with Kate and her gorgeous gardens. She was such a beautiful soul inside and out. i am shocked and saddened to hear of her passing. my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family at this very difficult time.

One of my BEST memories of Kate was being in her kitchen when she lived on Palmer, she was preparing lunch for our kids in the back yard, and she started singing, "The Rose" by Bette Midler. She encouraged me to join her and we sang the whole song to one another. She had a voice that I am sure she is sharing with the Angels. Kate had the most beautiful soul I have ever encountered and she could always make me feel so loved just by being around her. The love she gave to everyone, especially her kids and husband was inspiring and definitely taught me how to be a better person. Having the opportunity to even know Kate was a gift to me and she took with her a piece of my heart. I'm positive she is smiling down upon us all and spreading her love in every way she can. I love you Kate, my "Rose" friend, always have, always will.
Jay, Miss Emily, Miss Sara, Susie & Mrs. Berg, my love is with you all during this time of heartache. She will forever be a shining light and love down to us all.

Kathy Berg - my very very bestfriend through most of Smallwood Drive, just down the street. We galloped around Smallwood singing, sharing, and when the idea hit us, running up to HOJOs for our ice cream cones. We had the same role in the operetta on different nights :) - I felt so bad to win the Friday slot (she got Thursday), and was a real sport. She was indeed a gorgeous girl...tall and blond and articulate and smart - aced the spelling tests. I was in a bit of awe of her frankly. I remember her lovely sister Sue, her mom and Dad whom I adored ...anyway I stumbled upon the message and glad I did. I also loved reading others' messages, all so similar. Old faces come alive. Lovely to see. She lived a good life cut short, may she rest in peace and her family live with her wonderful memories. Warm greetings to family and old friends.

We were best buds back in high school and used to laugh together and confide in one another about all sorts of things. We were happy teenagers. Dear JJ, Emily, and Sara, I knew your mother since we were in 3rd grade together, we shared sleep overs in grade school, even th out we were not close friends we shared big hugs and stories every time we saw each other.
