I really cannot believe that it has been almost four years. I remember so much about that day - my thoughs, my feelings and how badly my heart ached. Though I have become friends with Kevin's family and think the world of them, I still miss my mentor, my colleague, my boss - my Friend! I know that as each day goes by, Kevin's family and friends often think of him, miss him and perhaps dream about what life would have been like if things didn't happen the way they did. I travel often for work and I'm reminded of what Kevin, his fellow travelers that day and their families and friends have given up in hopes that our travels may be safer. I will continue to pray that the Johnston family always feels the presence of Kevin and that one day - we are all united in the kingdom of heaven!

When I heard of this crash on national news 3 years ago, I drove to Buffalo/Amherst, thinking that I may know someone on that flight. I have traveled on that same flight from Newark NJ to Buffalo NY on chemical engineering business years ago.
Having to return to Ohio, I later saw that the passengers' names were released, and so I learned of my OHS '73 classmate's fate that day.
My heart goes out to his wife and children. May God grant you peace, and gratefulness for the years that Kevin did enjoy with you.

My deepest sympathies to Kevin's family.
I knew Kevin for only a few years because of his involvement in the Sovereign take over of Croda in 2000 in England.
Kevin was one of the good guys and always had time to share his knowledge and experience and wisdom to help you.
I am deeply saddened by his loss and wish his family well.
I came across his death by chance whilst browsing the internet and although I heard about the crash, I did not realise he was a casualty until much later last year.
He will be missed by everyone who knew him.
Unfortunately, this book is not set to add UK details, so I will put my USA detail as Ohio

It took my awhile to figure out the right words that I should say in your time of need. The only phrase that I can come up with is "Thank You". I want to thank you for sharing your husband with us. Because you did, he gave me the opportunity that I desperately needed when I was in undergrad. None of my smarts, intelligent, and cunning mattered when I needed a job. Kevin gave me a job because he was a nice guy. He helped set my destiny in motion. I am forever changed because of his kindness. You were blessed to have him and I was blessed to meet him. Thank you.

Dear Kathy and girls,
My heart felt sympathy and condolences for the lost of an exceptional person, in your lives. Little may you now how special Kevin was to our family. As a young student looking for an opportunity my son (Alex Bertrand) came to know Kevin. Kevin gave Alex a chance when no one else would. He was extremely patient and kind to mentoring and engaging alex in the field of civil engineering for the then Sovereign specialty plant, here in Buffalo. As Alex graduated and excelled in life, Kevin and he kept in touch. Kevin always had time to talk to him through emails or telephone. Only once in a lifetime are we afforded opportunities to meet hero's. I thank God daily that my family was blessed to have been touched and considered friends by this exceptional human being. Never letting status or position cloud his response to us, Kevin will forever hold the name friend in the Hayes household. We continue to pray for your strength and courage through this most difficult time. Remembering his warmth and integrigty will serve as the comfort that will hold you and the girls together. He spoke of his girls in conversations and the look of love and pride always filled his face when he did. As you know so do we what a good person Kevin was, but understand that he shared himself so much that many now have those same attributes. stay strong and remain encouraged.

Kathy,
Please except my deepest sympathy for the loss of your husband, I can't even imagine what your feeling...How Very sad... I work at Millard on the mother baby unit and have worked with you only a few times, so I really didn't get to know you all that well, but from what I do know is this-Your a very sweet person thats allways smiling and talked highly of your family. I know you will stay strong for yourself and children. Just know you and your husband and children are in many of our thoughts and prayers. God has excepted another beautifull angel in heaven to look down upon us. This was a very tragic and horrible way to be taken, but Kevin will allways be remembered FOREVER! I hope you find the strength in god to help you get through this very tragic time in your life. I am sooo very Sorry!

Kathy, Family and Friends,
Words cannot express the deep felt sorrow for the loss of Kevin. You know that everyone Kevin touched feels pain and grief and you have our deepest sympathy.
In the face of any difficult situation, Kevin would be the first one to reiterate the need to concentrate effort on what we can influence and not dwell on what is out of our control. Kevin reminded us of this numerous times through the years and always at the first sign of any hand wringing within his group. While his family faces something that does not compare to anything we faced in business, I cannot believe his recommendation would have been much different. As you know, Kevin was highly consistent.
Late this morning as I lay in bed trying to shake off the deep sadness and fully wake, the following words entered my mind in a very bold way: “Get up…Get going…Get to work”. And out of pure respect for the special messenger that delivered the clear message - that is exactly what I did.
God bless all of you,
Kelly (Koch) James and family

Kathy, Melissa, Amanda & Kelsey,
We are so profoundly saddened and devastated to hear about Kevin. I have SO many great memories of all of us from gymnastics, soccer, "movie club" and just getting together. When I think of Kevin I think of what a kind, loving and devoted husband and father he was to you and the girls. I cannot even begin to imagine being in your shoes but I hope the huge amount of love and support from your family and friends will help you through this tragic time. We are SO SORRY we could not be there for the memorial service but I hope you can feel the love and big hug from us to you and the girls. Mike also wanted to let Kyle know how sorry he is about his Uncle Kevin. You are all in our thoughts and prayers and will continue to be. We love you!

I am so sorry to hear about Kevin. We were in school together (class of '74). Although we did not keep up, I am not surprised to read the wonderful comments and expression of love for him from all over the world. I remember Kevin as bright, hard working and happy guy. Dear Kathy,
I'm not sure if words can express my sorrow, but I will give it a try. I am so sorry. I worked with Kevin for nearly 4 years at Henkel. He was a brilliant expert. He was a manager that carefully managed his people and our processes, but he never made you feel like he was "the boss", he was easygoing and easy to talk to. He was a great mentor. He inspired me in many ways and taught me so much about the value of teams, the importance of staying on top of my own techinical and managerial skills and the satisfaction of working hard and doing what's right. I will miss him. I think there's still more for me to learn from him and I will continue to reflect on his work.
I hope you find comfort and peace through this.

Kathy, Melissa, Amanda and Kelsey,
I am abandoning the thought that I am capable of telling you face to face what Kevin meant to me and how deep and painful his loss is. My most sincere heartfelt sympathy goes out to each of you and I pray that you will find comfort and warmth knowing that he held all of you deeply within his heart.
It is my hope that you will thoroughly accept my deepest thanks and appreciation for allowing your husband and dad to have touched my life – for sharing him with me and the rest of the world and I do mean the world.
Kevin was more then a boss or a colleague to me – he was a trusted friend and brilliant mentor. He changed the path of life I was walking down from the first moment I met him and he continued to guide and direct me as only he could do.
There are things or people we place on a pedestal, but for me – with Kevin – I realize that without him – there would be no pedestal – at least not a safe one. Kevin has touched people’s lives for many years in many areas throughout the world.
Forever I will remember Kevin - the wisdom he did not hesitate to give - his smile – his cheerful positive voice – his way of calmly dealing with whatever life threw at him – and his never-ending energy will be those memories I will one day be able to smile about, but his friendship will be something I treasure forever!
I hope that in some way you find warmth and comfort in knowing that there are many keeping you in our thoughts and prayers.
