Wilmore, Kentucky. Leigh Ann (Shapiro) Schade, 78, passed away in Lexington, Kentucky. Born on July 27, 1946, in Warsaw, New York, her friends and family helped her to grow up to be a kind, caring and determined individual. Leigh graduated from Warsaw Central High School, and Onondaga Community College. Leigh dedicated herself to the Lockport Senior Citizens Center as Business manager from 1976 to 1980. Leigh shared her expertise in nonprofit accounting by teaching seminars at various non-profit association conferences. Her career also spanned managing major residential properties across multiple states from 1981 to 1998. Beyond her professional endeavors, Leigh was a devout member of Wilmore Presbyterian Church in Wilmore, Kentucky, where she was an active supporter of the Clean Cupboard mission. She also spent several years as a hospice volunteer. She was also a talented painter, knitter and cook. Leigh is survived by her husband, Thomas Schade; her children, Thomas Schade, II and Julie (Schade) Brian; son's life partner Lou Abbatiello: six grandchildren; three nieces and three nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Julius Shapiro and Francis (Bailey) Shapiro; her sister Paula Young; and brother Edward Shapiro. In lieu of flowers donations in Leigh's honor to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or Tunnel to Towers would be appreciated. A celebration of Leigh's life well lived will be held in the late spring, when the meadows are in full bloom, in Varysburg, New York. The date and time to be determined.
