Derylak, Marcia J. (nee Gisterek)
May 9, 1938 - Sep 21, 2025
Died peacefully in her home in Depew, NY on Sunday, September 21, 2025, with family by her side. Marcia was predeceased by her parents, Joan Czekaj (née Mentel) and Michael Gisterek, her stepfather John Czekaj, her brother John R. Czekaj (late Anthony DiDia), and her former spouse Stanley Derylak. She is survived by her daughters Susan M. Derylak (Mark Golden) and Deborah A. Derylak (Jen Rude), her sister Maryan J. Celani, her nephew and niece David J. Celani and Dawn M. Noworyta, her great nephew John M. Noworyta, and her brother John's stepson Robert Malicki, along with many other beloved family members and friends. Marcia was born in Buffalo, NY on May 9, 1938. She grew up above Mentel's Tavern on the corner of Peckham and Smith, which was owned by her grandparents John Mentel and Joanna (Chwastek) Mentel, and where she shared so many fond memories with family and friends. Marcia graduated from Bishop Colton High School. Soon thereafter, she and Stanley Derylak married, and eventually moved from Buffalo to East Aurora, where they raised their two daughters, Susan and Deb. During their years in East Aurora, Marcia practiced and taught yoga, became an enthusiastic student of many different expressions of spiritual life and ways to foster holistic wellness, and nurtured many deep friendships with dear friends. She worked at the Hens and Kelly department store, and as a secretary and administrative assistant in a variety of settings, including law offices, the Roycroft Gift Shop, and Parkdale Elementary School. Marcia also continued her formal education at Hilbert College and Bryant and Stratton College. Marcia eventually moved to Depew to be closer to her sister, Maryan. She continued to work in administrative roles, completing her work life with several years at Catholic Health's McAuley Seton Home Care agency. Marcia enjoyed many years of retirement, spending time with family and friends, continuing to expand her mind and her spirit with every learning opportunity she could find, and always generously and compassionately sharing her love of spiritual learning and her longing for peace in our world with her family and friends. A Celebration of Life will be held at Unity of Buffalo (1243 Delaware Avenue Buffalo, NY 14209), on Sunday, October 19 at 2 PM, with a reception to follow.
