Margaret BANAK Obituary

BANAK - Margaret A. "Peg"
(nee Burns)
Formerly of North Tonawanda, NY, died at Harrisburg Hospital as a result of COVID-19. Peg was 71 years old and a resident of The Woods at Cedar Run in Camp Hill, PA. Peg was born on July 10, 1949 to the late Orie and Beatrice (Ditz) Burns in Oil City, PA. She graduated in 1967 from Venango Christian High School and then attended Mercyhurst College and University of Buffalo. She worked with the USPS before starting her 30 year career with the Computing Services department at SUNY Buffalo. Peg was married to the late Lawrence "Butch" Banak in October 1987. Though Peg and Butch did not have any children of their own, they proudly had the opportunity to become guardians to Katie Vandermark, whom they adored. They also had many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews whom they loved and cherished dearly. Peg was known for her intellect and being a Scrabble wiz and crossword expert. She also enjoyed games of chance and liked taking trips to casinos. She was talented in the kitchen and loved to host family and friends with her delicious meals. Peg faced many tribulations in life but remained strong and courageous throughout. She continued to be a loving, generous soul and always put others before herself. In addition to her parents and husband, Peg was preceded in death by her brothers, Larry Burns of Palm Coast, FL and Robert Burns of Dillsburg, PA and her sister Bonita Burns of North Tonawanda, NY. She is survived by her brother, Richard Burns of Trenton, SC and step-siblings Susan (Steve) Frost of Lansdale, PA and Patrick (Renee) Hanna of Erie, PA as well as her many nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Life will be held at a date to be announced once arrangements have been made.

I would like to wish my condolences to the family. I knew Margaret for many years at Buffalo State College and she was always willing to help service our department´s needs. She was friendly and very professional serving in her role in Computing Services.

Sad to hear about Peg´s passing. As a faculty member and department chair Peg always was willing to help me out with/ requests I put in to Computing Services. Besides demonstrating professionalism w/ her job, I always enjoyed talking w/ her.

Condolences to Peg's family and loved ones. We had great conversations in the halls of Twin Rise in the time I was Director of Disability Services. If I ever needed advice dealing with access, automatic doors, etc. She was my go-to one-person advisory board. After we retired, we were in touch on Facebook. I will miss knowing she was just a click or two away.

I worked upstairs from Peggy for many years and she was always willing to help out when asked, especially from one who was new to certain programs used at the college. RIP Peg!

I worked with Peg at Buffalo State. I didn't see her often, but when I did she always had something funny to say.

My heart is with the family. I can't believe she was taken by COVID.
