Marion Blomquist Obituary

Blomquist, Marion Jane

November 17, 1933 - August 27, 2025

Passed away on August 27, 2025, in Tinton Falls, N.J., at the age of 90. She was born on November 17, 1933, in Kane, Pa., the youngest of eight children of Charles R. and Ethel Victoria L. (Antonson) Dutchess. Marion was deeply committed to family, faith, friends and nursing. Marion was married to Gordon D. Blomquist for 62 years. She was a devoted mother to Kristina A. (Robert) DeCurtis, and Kurt D. Blomquist; and a loving grandmother to Nicholas and Amanda DeCurtis. Her deep commitment to family was evident in her enthusiastic support of school events, 4-H dog shows, soccer games, parades, swim meets, scouting activities, and boating trips on Lake Erie with her husband, despite not being able to swim. She especially cherished family outings to the Erie County Fair and the Buffalo Zoo. Marion kept close ties with her brothers and sisters and in later years with her nephews and nieces and their families, organizing and attending Dutchess family activities. A resident of the Village of Hamburg for five decades, Marion was an active member of the Hamburg Garden Club and held a life membership she treasured. She also participated in the Erie County Friends of the Fair for over ten years. A loyal Buffalo Bills fan, she cheered them on for more than fifty years. Marion's faith was central to her life. She was a member of Churchill Memorial Church in Boston, N.Y., for 55 years, where she served on various committees, participated in the Women's Group (United Women in Faith), and contributed to numerous church events including fish dinners, cookie sales, pie making, holiday bazaars, and enjoyed singing in the choir. A dedicated nurse for over 56 years, Marion worked in diverse roles, from infectious disease wards in New York City to neonatal intensive care units, floor nursing and nursing homes, always prioritizing patient care. In doctors' offices, she earned the affectionate nickname "No. 1." She was predeceased by her husband, parents, and siblings. Burial will take place at Warren County Memorial Park in Warren, Pa., alongside her husband. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Marion's name to Churchill Memorial United Methodist Church, PO Box 155, Boston, N.Y. 14025.

I had the pleasure of working with #1 for many years at OPFP. Marion was such a compassionate nurse and loving co worker. Sorry I couldn“t be there today. Sheila
