Mary Bascom Obituary
Bascom, Mary Jane
August 8, 1954 - December 19, 2024
A loving wife, devoted mother, caring nurse, and passionate follower of Christ, passed away peacefully at the age of 70. She was born to Ruth and Henry Swierat. A woman of many talents and deep compassion, Mary lived a life full of purpose. She was an accomplished nurse, earning her RN degree from Millard Fillmore School of Nursing, and had the privilege of delivering four babies on her own during her career. Her career was driven by her passion for helping others. Her commitment to the Lord's work extended beyond her nursing career, as she traveled to Mexico on missionary work. She had an unshakable faith and desire to share Christ's message with all she encountered. Mary Jane was a devoted wife to her husband, Jerry, and together they built a life filled with shared dreams and achievements. She was immensely proud of his career and accomplishments, always supporting him through every challenge and triumph. Her greatest pride, however, came from her daughters, Sarah and Stacy, whose successes in life and careers reflected the values she instilled in them. She was their greatest cheerleader and their constant source of love and guidance. She had a heart full of admiration for her son, Jacob, whose courage in overcoming the challenges of living with special needs was a constant source of inspiration. She stood by him with unyielding love and pride, always in awe of his resilience. Mary Jane loved to laugh, sing, crochet and spend time with her family. She was also an avid reader and enjoyed traveling to special places like Niagara Falls, Toronto and Prince Edward Island. She cherished the bonds of her large family and moments of laughter with her siblings. In everything she did, Mary Jane lived with grace and ever-present love for Jesus Christ. Her example of unwavering faith, her care for others in need, and her joyful spirit will be missed but never forgotten. Mary Jane is preceded in death by her beloved grandparents, Irene and Leo Steinwandel, and Helen and Michael Swierat; as well as her parents, Ruth and Henry Swierat. She is survived by her loving husband Jerry, children: Sarah Ago (Ledio Ago), Stacy Pierce (Marc Pierce), and Jacob Bascom; grandchildren: Victoria Pierce, Tristan Ago, and Landon Ago. She also leaves behind siblings, Robert Swierat, Sue Ann Pair, James Swierat, Diane Puchalski, Steven Swierat and Michele McKinley. A visitation will be held 1-3 p.m., Friday, January 3, 2025 at Memorial Park Funeral Home (13313 N Kelley Ave) followed by a graveside service at 3:30 p.m. at Memorial Park Cemetery. A celebration of her life will take place 2:00 p.m., Friday, January 31, 2025 at Memorial Park funeral home.
