mary was a passionate person...she was passionate about teaching, she was passionate about her children and she was passionate about life. I believe mary's motto would be something like "anything worth doing, is worth doing well" and mary did everything well. she inspired those around her with her extensive knowledge, enthusiasm, her committment and that unforgettable laugh and smile. i feel blessed to have taught with mary, learned from mary and remained friends with mary over the past 15 years. though she is no longer here, she will continue to inspire me in my teaching and in my mothering.

Dear Hoffman & Charles Families, Mary was my daughter, Victoria's teacher at Hillview. She was the most loving and caring teacher that Vikki had. Also she understood Vikki's needs. Vikki was her student that thought "out of the box" and Mary loved her creativity. I had many a conversation with her about it and she never stifiled Vikki's enthusiam. She will always be remembered as an inspiration to her students. We lost my husband last year and I can appreciate the pain your family is experiencing. Your family is in my prayers and thoughts. Mary taught next door to me at Court Street. I feel honored to have known Mary and to have been a part of her life. She was an extraordinary teacher, an especially devoted mother and a true friend. Mary adored her children. When she was home after Elizabeth was born, we used to spend hours on the phone talking about motherhood, schools and life. I could always count on Mary for a thorough analysis of every subject I brought up. I loved talking to her! I will forever remember her bubbly voice, her upbeat attitude, her loving nature and her endless knowledge about everything that relates to childhood literacy. I will try to live by her example.
