Kormos,
Michael Peter
August 21, 1936 - July 11, 2025
The family of Michael Kormos is saddened to share that our beloved "Mikey" passed away peacefully on the evening of July 11th, 2025. The loving husband of Donna for 62 years of marriage. His children Kevin Kormos (Karin Jenkins) and Carrie Kormos (Derek Tupling) remember their father for being the most caring and patient Dad. Michael also leaves behind three grandchildren whom he treasured deeply Charlotte (Kormos), Grayson (Tupling) and Everly (Tupling). Michael was predeceased by his two beloved sisters Mary Kociulym and Ann Spiars. Born in Sarnia on August 21, 1936, Michael grew up with his sisters and went to school in Welland. At Welland High, he was an all-star athlete capturing many provincial titles for basketball, hockey and football. In the halls of high school, he also would meet Donna Fehrman, whom he would marry in September 1963 and they would settle in Fort Erie. Following high school, Michael embarked on a career in the newspaper industry as a journeyman pressman. This brought him to roles at the Welland Tribune, Montreal Gazette, Toronto Star and eventually, a 38-year career at the Buffalo News. His travel for work sparked an interest to see more of the world beyond Canadian borders. As a young man, he crossed the Atlantic Ocean via steamship with his buddy Tony Bush to travel Europe. These travels led to a life of travel adventures with Donna at his side. Michael will always be remembered for his kind, friendly and selfless ways. As once put, "Mike always cared more about the other guy." In retirement, Michael enjoyed a rich life in the sunshine of Palm Coast, Florida where he loved playing golf and horseshoes with his dear buddies at Surf Club followed by a cold one poolside. He was happiest hosting his family and friends usually with a camera in hand to capture the moment. Throughout his life, even into retirement, he remained active running in many Skylon marathons, playing rec league hockey and cycling the Niagara River. He channeled his passion for sports to be a dedicated volunteer in youth sports coaching in the Fort Erie Minor Hockey league and many youth running groups. The family would like to extend an invitation to a Celebration of Life for Michael at the Cherry Hill Club in Ridgeway, Ontario on Friday, August 8th, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. This was a very special place for Michael where many family memories were made over the years. Given his passion for sports, the family requests that in lieu of flowers a donation to the Niagara Branch of the Boy & Girls Club (BGC Niagara) can be made at
https://bgcn.ca/donate/ in Michael's name. The family would also like to thank the staff of Maple Park Lodge and the Greater Niagara Hospital General staff, who cared for Michael in his final days.
