Dear Betty and Family,

It was such a shock to hear the sad news that Paul recently passed away. His warmth and kind nature will certainly be missed, and for a special and loving person like Paul it's really a great loss. My deepest sympathy to you and your family.

Betty and family,
I arrived at Lazy River not long ago and was deeply shocked to find out about Paul‘s passing. I am so very sorry. I was so looking forward to seeing the both of you. My only comfort is that Paul and Dean are together once again talking and laughing and enjoying each other‘s company. I cannot tell you how much I appreciated the kindness and support that you both showed me last spring during my health issues. Almost daily you and Paul would stop in and ask how we were doing. Dean and I both so appreciated your friendship. Again, I am so sorry for your loss. He will be dearly missed. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
Love, Carole Lee Kenney

Dear O'Brien Family,
Please accept our condolences on the loss of Mr. O'Brien. Our family, the McCarthys, lived down the street at 66 Woodview (a/k/a "Sheila's cousins"). The remembrances of him on this page, and the heartfelt and touching obituary, are exactly what I remember of him as a child - a man with an unfailingly pleasant disposition and a welcoming smile on his face at all times. Now that's the way to live! Some things (like his generosity and thoughtfulness) never change - when our Uncle Tim died a few years ago, the O'Briens opened up their house on Woodview so my brothers and I had a place to stay for the funeral. A simple selfless act, but one that exemplifies the type of person that he was (and the family that he and Mrs. O'Brien raised). May the happy memories of his well-lived life sustain you during this difficult time.
Johnny McCarthy (and Dot, Annie, Tim, Mike and Joe)

Mr. O’Brien was a big part of my childhood on Woodview Avenue. He was always around fixing things and helping everyone. I loved when he would fill the garage with grapes to get ready for his famous wine. He never minded a bunch of children under his feet either! Him and my dad enjoyed many years of dressing up on Halloween and joining in the fun with us kids up and down the street. I loved all of our bike rides that sometimes ended up at Charlaps. I will always remember his warm smile and kind voice. Our sympathies go out to the entire Obrien family. Until we meet again...

Paul made you feel as if he were your very own best friend. He was a mentor and teacher of how to live well. His obituary mentioned his curiosity...Yes, that is exactly what I remember - and his wonder. Such a heartbreak and loss. May you all find peace and gentle days ahead without your dear husband, father, grampa, and friend. Love you Paul O'Brien.

I first met Paul at the pool at Lazy River Village shortly after Wayne and I moved there in 2014, and he quickly became one of my favorite people to see there almost every afternoon. He was so friendly, and I truly enjoyed getting to know him. It always amazed me that after that first year at Lazy River, after having not seen each other for many months (the life of a snowbird), he easily remembered my name! Some snowbird there for years and can’t remember names! I’m going to miss his big smile and “Hi Ang” greeting. Truly a dear, sweet man. Our condolences and love to Betty and the O’Brien family.
