Helstrom, Gerda M. of Boston, entered into rest on March 22, 2026. Beloved mother of Cheryl Riggle, the late Linda Riggle and Laura (late James) Gokey; cherished grandmother of Patrick Murphy, Jessica Murphy, Harmony Gokey and Hannah Gokey; adored great grandmother of Caleb Russel and Lila Davis; loving daughter of the late Carl Helstrom, Sr. and Marie Hazel Helstrom; loving sister of the late Carl (Lois) Helstrom, Jr. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.
Gerda was born in the mountain town of Renovo, PA at the gateway of the Appellation Mountains. Her childhood was filled with exploring the forest mountains with her two older brothers and many friends and relatives. Gerda was known for her skill at building go-carts and constructing "shanties" in the woods. She swam in the Susquehanna and attended the YMCA weekly. She won the "Y Girls" Champion badminton tournament in 1954. Gerda competed in many sports and was voted "most athletic" in her 1957 Senior Year book. She also played the trumpet in The Renovo Highschool Marching Band.
Gerda was a loving and kind mother to her three daughters Cherly, Linda and Laura. She always encourages them to keep learning and growing. While her daughters entered high school, Gerda returned to college and received a certificate in Licensed Practical Nursing. During her later years she participated in many marathons and was an avid pickleball player. Gerda took 1st place in the 60 and over age group for the Shamrock Run years 2001 and 2005. She continued to do gardening, wood working, landscaping and very skilled at home remodeling and repair. Gerda was a true Renaissance woman and kept learning and helping others until the end of her life.
Relatives and friends may visit the LOMBARDO FUNERAL HOME (Southtowns Chapel) 3060 Abbott Rd. near Lake Ave. on Sunday (April 26) from 11 AM- 2 PM, with eulogies and a service to follow.
