Barbara (Applegate) Helstrom, 89 passed into the loving arms of her Lord on March 3, 2025.
Born in
Whitinsville, MA to the late Benjamin and Ethel (Young) Applegate where she lived and graduated from Northbridge High School with the class of 1953.
She met her husband Ralph in 1955 and they were married a year later in 1956. They were married for 63 years before he passed away in 2019. They lived most of their married life in Northbridge, MA.
She will be lovingly remembered alongside her sisters Virginia Jahn and Norma Hutnak and is survived by her sisters Marge Cnossen (Paul) and Ethel Bouley (Jim).
She leaves behind her 3 beloved children: David Helstrom and his wife Tammy (Mikulsky) of Douglas, Debi Mangin and her late husband Frank Mangin of Viroqua, WI, and Eric Helstrom and his wife Heidi (Picotte) of Douglas. Also her 9 beloved grandchildren (and spouses) Karl (Danielle), Karissa, Mark (Katie), Bethany (Sam), Cameron (Laura), Mercy, Hannah (Tom), Emma, and Krista, as well as her 7 cherished great-grandchildren.
When all of her children were in school she went back to school to become an LPN. She was graduated from Assabet Valley School of Practical Nursing in 1973, working as a nurse for Beaumont Nursing Home most of her career, retiring in 1999. She and her husband loved to travel. They traveled to England, Sweden, Paris, Australia, Hawaii, Israel, an extended trip around the USA and a mission trip to Haiti.
She enjoyed many years of Bible studies, cards, games and visits with her dear friends.
Most recently she called Whitinsville Retirement Home (WRH) her home.
Our family wants to extend a loving, huge thank you to the director Jeannine Crawford and all the staff, volunteers, and residents who she lived with and so lovingly cared for her as a beloved member of the WRH family
Funeral Services will be held, Saturday, March 22, 2025 at 11 am at Valley Chapel, 4 Hunter Rd., Uxbridge.
Burial will follow at Pinegrove Cemetery in Northbridge.
Calling hours will be held from 9:00-11:00 am in the Church.
