Andrew Helstrom Obituary

Andy passed away peacefully at his home in Island Lake August 29, 2024. He was a beloved husband, stepfather and grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend to many. He will be forever remembered for his warm smile, kind demeanor, caring heart, and loyal friendship. Andy grew up with his four brothers and loving parents in Carpentersville and later, Lake In The Hills. He worked at Lion Tool & Die in Algonquin for 38 years where he became a CAD expert and forged many great friendships. He met and married Belen, the love of his life, in 2012. He treasured being a husband, Dad and Grandpa to his new family. He loved woodworking, old movies, Andy Griffith Show reruns, Beatles music (especially on karaoke night), and spending time with family.
Andy is survived by his wife Belen, his stepchildren Dona (Ed), Dennis, Lyra (Ronel), Geo (Marianne), and Erika (Raymond), his grandchildren Andrea, Chelsea, Leigh, Travis, Dream, Zia, and RJ, his brothers Robert Jr. (Roxane), Michael (Dan), and Peter (Laura), his nieces and nephews Abigail (Brian), Zoë (Lucas), Jack (Kaiti), Renna, and Quinn. He was preceded in death by his father Robert, his mother Betty, and his brother Dan.
There will be a memorial service followed by a reception for Andy on Saturday, September 28, 2024, at 3:00 PM at First Congregation Church Crystal Lake (461 Pierson St., Crystal Lake, IL). In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to The Other Side (https://the-other-side.org/).

Andy was that friend for me that because of the distance between us when I moved, we wouldn´t talk for weeks or months at a time. But that day when he called me or I called him to catch up it was like we were together the day before. We shared so many of the same likes and dislikes and a more of a brotherly bond than a friendship. So many memories made and plans for more in the future but God had other plans. I love you my brother and will miss our talks
