POTH - Paul Patrick Died on the morning of August 22, 2009. A proud native of Buffalo, New York, Paul attended Nichols School, Boston College, and the University of Notre Dame Law School. After graduation, Paul moved to Boston, Massachusetts and served as an Assistant District Attorney at the Suffolk County District Attorney's office under Ralph C. Martin, II. Paul served on the Board of the Victim Rights Law Center of Boston, volunteered for Project Hope, and mentored city youth through hockey leagues and the Boston Public Schools Mock Trial program. In 2000 Paul received citations and numerous recognitions from the Mayor of Boston and Massachusetts House of Representatives for establishing the law enforcement initiative known as Operation Galadriel to eliminate teenage prostitution. In 2009, Paul created TargetCancer, Inc., to promote research and treatment protocols for underfunded and rare cancers. Donations may be made to TargetCancer at: TargetCancer, c/o Charles Cheever, Choate Hall & Stewart, 2 International Place, Boston, MA 02110, or online at www.targetcancer.info. So hurt to read of Paul's passing in a Nichols publication that arrived yesterday.
What a smart, driven, and caring guy he was. They don't come any brighter.
I really enjoyed working with Paul and Kristen a few years back.
What a loss to his family, friends, and
Massachusetts.

Kristen: I was a fellow ND law student with Paul in London and am also from Buffalo. Paul and I loved to talk about Buffalo food, sports, etc. What I remember most about him was his good humor and upbeat personality. He brightened every room he entered and will be missed.

To the Poth family –

My deepest sympathies for your loss. I attended law school with Paul. No one was better at telling a story, and few had his compassion or zest for life. He was a good and cherished friend, and all were better for knowing him.

I am so sorry for your loss and the community's loss of such a wonderful person. I met Paul during the first week of school at BC. I too am from Buffalo and was so happy to meet someone from "home." He was one of the funniest people I have had the privilege of knowing. I remember his smiles, his laughter and his kindness. I am keeping you all in my prayers during this most difficult and sad time. I am not able to attend the memorial in October but my thoughts will be there. God bless you all.

Kristen, Luca and family,
My deepest sympathy on your loss. I worked with Paul at the BMC and remember him fondly. He was a talented ADA who was well liked and respected. I will remember his smile and his sense of humor.....and I will always remember his bow ties!!
Take care,

I am very sorry for your loss. I did not know Paul well, but worked with him on a matter briefly at Mintz Levin. Though our interaction was brief, he immediately struck me as a genuinely good, funny person, on top of his obvious legal skills. That combination is all too rare.

I had the pleasure of working with Paul at the District Attorney's Office when he was just beginning his career. A most loving, generous and passionate person.God Bless you and your family at this very sad time.

Peter and Mary, I read today's Boston Globe article about Peter, and as I read it, I thought, "is this the little kid who was on the Park Club swim team with my little brother Tommy and my sister Suzanne White? Is this the son of Mr. Poth who was at Peat Marwick? As I read further I realized that it was indeed Paul. My heart breaks for you, please know that people from way back when are remembering him as such a great kid, and send you our deepest sympathies. I will never forget him diving and swimming, it's funny how little things in your life stick with you. May he rest in peace. The White Family sends our condolences.

Although I never met Paul, his generosity has always been in my thoughts. Around 5 years ago, I found his information online and reached out to him on behalf of one of my Boston Public School students who was a shooting victim. Paul was an unrelenting advocate for this young woman, and literally changed the path of her life. His memory will surely live on as one of the powerful souls that make our world worth living in.

In Peace,

Dear Kristen, Luca, and the Poth Family:

I was very sorry to hear of Paul's passing. I bumped into him recently at one of his hospital visits, and in typical fashion, Paul was optimistic about the long-term plan for his care.
As a member of the defense bar I can tell you that Paul was well respected as a very smart, fair, ethical, and talented Assistant DA, and we shall miss his competitiveness and his wonderful sense of humor.
I am so sorry for your loss.

Dear Kristen, Luca and the Poth Family:

We are so sorry for your loss and pray that God brings you comfort as you mourn the loss of Paul. We had the privilege of being law school classmates with Paul at Notre Dame and were later honored to have Paul stand up in our wedding. He was creatively brilliant and outrageously funny. Whether throwing around the disc, studying for exams, cooking up a batch of chili, or listening to one of his classic stories -- it was always great to be around PPP. Paul -until we meet again may God hold you in the palm of His hand.

PAUL, AS A YOUNG ADA ,WORKING WITH THE AREA A BOSTON POLICE WAS A HARD WORKING LAWYER. AS A MEMBER OF THE DEPARTMENT AND WORKING NIGHTS I FOUND PAUL EASY TO TALK TO, UNDERSTANDING AND MOST OF ALL VERY EASY TO GET A LAUGH OUT OF. I FOUND THAT OVER THE YEARS IF THERE WAS NO HUMOR AT THE WORKPLACE THERE WAS NO ENJOYMENT IN THE WORK. IF I HAD SOMETHING FUNNY TO SAY OR TO TELL HIM I WOULD SEEK HIM OUT BECAUSE I KNEW HE ENJOYED A GOOD LAUGH. NOW THAT I THINK OF IT IF HE SAW MY OFFICE DOOR OPEN HE WOULD TELL ME SOMETHING SO I COULD LAUGH.FROM ONE WHO HAS FAITH I WILL REMEMBER HIM IN MY PRAYERS.

My thoughts and prayers are with you. Paul was a dear friend of my brother Eric and he spent a lot of time with our family one summer in LA. He put up with all of my little sister antics and always had such a great attitude. I haven't seen him in years but remember him fondly. Please accept my condolences.

I am so sorry to hear of Paul's passing. We thought so highly of him at Suffolk and enjoyed working with him while he was with the DA's office. His bow ties were legendary and he always had a great outlook, even when his case wasn't going as well as he had hoped. May his memory be a blessing to your family.
With deepest sympathy,

Dear Poth Family:

Although I only met Paul a few times (through sister Clare and brother-in-law Tom), he seemed to be a wonderful guy. I know that he was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed. My sympathies to all his family and friends, especially his wife and child.

So heartbroken to hear of your loss. I was a classmate of Paul's at BC, and our paths continued to cross throughout our careers in the DA's office and as lawyers in Boston. What a wonderfully bright and witty person! Paul always, always made me laugh, no matter how much time had passed since we had last connected. I consider that a gift, but little consolation at this sad, sad loss far too early. Blessings.

Kristin, Luca, and all of Paul's friends and families -

The sense of loss is profound. It's due to the sense of joy we all feel from having had the pleasure of Paul being a part of our lives, and the knowledge that his was a life unfairly ended far too soon.

Paul will live on through our family in many ways, but especially through the term "chambered" that he introduced to me when we lived together.

We will be on vacation in Maine next week and will miss Paul's tribute, but Leon will be there to represent the men of the Kennedy Biscuit Lofts.

Peace.

This is one cousin who is regretful that she didn't know Paul better between the high school and college years, but very grateful that she got the chance to reconnect with him in Boston in 2005. My heart goes out to Mary Ann, Clare, Kristen and Luca. I will be in Buffalo October 30, come hell or high water...

Oh, and I hope this picture cheers you all up. I think it epitomizes what Paul was all about...
