Peter Curtis Obituary
February 22, 1947 - May 2, 2025
Passed at home with his wife Betsy (nee Wilberscheid) at his side on May 2, 2025 after a short illness. Peter was born on February 22, 1947 in Danvers, Massachusetts to Phillip Curtis and Patricia Stewart Curtis. He was one of 4 siblings and is survived by John (Diana W. Bianchi, MD), Mary and Julie. There are 3 nephews Jeremy Curtis, Joshua Phillip Curtis and Elliott Peter Curtis. Peter went to Bucknell University (BA) and then the State University of New York at Buffalo in the Political Science Department (MA, ABD). He served in the Air Force and achieved the rank of First Lieutenant before starting graduate school. A man of great loyalty with an ethos of service, Peter served his country, his county and his wife Betsy. A man of great intellect, for 25 years Peter was Assistant Commissioner Policy and Planning in the Erie County Department of Mental Health, with particular work in children's mental health services. A singer, a gardener and art collector, Peter generously supported many local agencies. The family plans a memorial service on Saturday, July 12, 2 p.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church, 351 Delaware Avenue.

I met and became friends with Peter when Betsy served as Organist/Choir Director at Christ Methodist Church in Snyder. I loved his deep Baritone voice but was also thrilled when Betsy would ask him to fill in as a Tenor when we desperately needed one! I am saddened to hear of his death and pray for the entire family as they continue to grieve their loss.
