Of Canandaigua/Waterloo. Richard L. Szewc, age 82, passed away December 21, 2020; and Susan K. Szewc, age 76, passed away December 22, 2020. They were married for 53 years and are survived by three children, Amy Szewc-McFadden (Barry McFadden), Kristin Szewc and Todd (Jennifer) Szewc; four treasured grandchildren, Patrick, Rachel, Lillian and Thomas; and many nieces and nephews. Susan is also survived by a sister, Sara (John) Burkholder. They were predeceased by their grandson, Timothy McFadden. Richard was also predeceased by eight siblings.
Richard was born in Lackawanna and was the son of Joseph and Rose (Kozielecka) Szewc. He was a US Army veteran and served in Korea after the war. Richard worked at Bethlehem Steel and retired from Ford Stamping Plant as a welder repairman. He volunteered for many organizations including Habitat for Humanity in Buffalo. Richard was proud of his work on the Board of Directors as Vice President of the Steel Plant Museum of Western New York. His hobbies included playing sports, model trains, getting a laugh and spending time outdoors. Richard enjoyed watching Buffalo Bills football games with family, friends and beer. He always had a friendly greeting and a "Go Bills" attitude.
Susan was born in Buffalo and was the daughter of Thomas and Lillian (Woodrich) Neeb. She graduated from Forestville High School. Susan worked as a registered nurse at Deaconess Hospital in Buffalo and later, at Lakeshore Nursing Home in Irving, where she worked her way up to Assistant Director of Nursing. After retiring, Susan enjoyed teaching clinicals for nursing students. She was involved in Girl Scouts, loved her cats and sang with Lake Effect Harmony Sweet Adelines. Susan shared her love of music and new experiences with her grandchildren. She enjoyed being outside as much as possible, especially at the beach. Susan will be remembered for her intelligence, strong work ethic and always being supportive of her family and friends.
The family is incredibly grateful to the staff at Huntington Living Center in Waterloo, for the excellent care Richard and Susan received.
A Celebration of their Lives will be held at a later date and time to be announced. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Canandaigua. We had the pleasure of being their neighbor when they moved to Canandaigua. In fact Richard called us if the store light was not turned on at dark, or off when it was light. We talked Buffalo, steel plants and football pools daily. We already miss our daily briefing from Richard. Much love to the Szewc family

My deepest sympathy to Sue and Richard's family. Sue and I worked together and were friends for many years. I have great memories of the good times we shared' as well as some sad times. I missed her terribly when they moved to Canandaigua but knew she needed to be close to her family. You children and grandchildren are in my thoughts and prayers. This must be such a difficult and sad time for you, losing both so close together and so close to Christmas. God bless you all Ginny Guenther
