Robert Reichard Obituary

Reichard,

Robert D.

Dec 31, 1936 - Sep 5, 2025

88, of Hamburg, NY. Beloved and devoted husband for 57 years of Marian (nee Davis) Reichard; loving father of Susan (Scott Brown) Pyne, Richard (Laurie) Reichard, Jennifer (Brian) Goosen, and William (Cari) Reichard; cherished grandfather of Robert (Jackie) Pyne, Jessica (Michael) Milnikiewicz, Rachel (Tyler) Pilarski, Adam (Gennie) Reichard, Spencer Goosen, Kyle Goosen, Elizabeth Goosen, Claire Reichard, Jack Reichard, and Emma Reichard; great-grandfather of Grayson Pyne, Vivian Pilarski, Evelyn Reichard, Samuel Milnikiewicz, Mallory Pyne, and Freddie Reichard; dear brother of Rev. Dr. Richard (Melba) Reichard; brother-in-law of Judith (Bruce) Wolck, and Margaret (Gordon) Lamb. Bob graduated from William Penn Senior School in York, Pennsylvania where he developed a love of music, which led him to Ithaca College, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Music Education in 1958. Bob continued his education at the University of Michigan, earning his master's degree in music in 1961. Bob's job search brought him to Eden, New York, where he was hired as the Band Director at Eden High School. Bob met the love of his life, Marian, in Eden where she was employed as a math teacher. Bob and Marian got married on December 29, 1962. In 1964, Bob was hired as the Band Director at Hamburg High School, Marian's alma mater. Bob's commitment to the Hamburg Music Department over his 34-year career provided excellent music experiences to thousands of young people in the Hamburg community resulting in the honor of receiving the first "Distinguished Educator" Hall of Fame award from the Hamburg Alumni Association. Bob retired in 1998 and enjoyed many years traveling with Marian, visiting his children and grandchildren, watching various sports, particularly the Buffalo Bills, and playing the trombone in local bands such as 23 Skidoo, the Pete Ciraolo Band and Joe Baudo's Big Band at the Sportsmen's Tavern. One of Bob's favorite quotes, "pride, discipline, commitment, respect," which he displayed in the High School Bandroom, reflected how he lived his life. Friends may call at the Donald M. Demmerley Funeral Home, 21 Pierce Ave., on Saturday, September 20th from 2 to 5 pm. Mr. Reichard was a huge part of my high school experience. I have so many wonderful memories of him, and Mrs. Reichard too, in marching band and HHS band. I couldn´t imagine my high school experience without him. He led us with love and pushed us to do great things. Where other schools would call band members "band geeks", HHS welcomed and celebrated ALL students and had one of the largest bands and marching bands because of him. That says something Sending out prayers and love to his family and loved ones.

Mr. Reichard was my music teacher and band director. I was a trombone player, like him, and I'm certain me and my fellow trombone players aged him during our tenure with him. But he taught us hooligans the importance of music and showed us why passion and raw talent isn't enough. Mastery of anything meaningful in life comes from "pride, discipline, commitment, respect." It's a life lesson well learned. Thank you and God Speed.

I am so saddened. Bob and Marian were our neighbors for over 50 years, Bob was our sons´ band instructor, they were friends and I have many memories, especially the band trip to Hershey Park. May he rest in peace with Marian.
