Ruth Gill Obituary

Gill, Ruth (nee Hollingsworth)

Aug 16, 1928 - Mar 29, 2025

Heaven has another sweet, blue-eyed angel. Age 96, entered into Heaven, surrounded by her loving family. She will always be remembered for her kindness, gentle faith, and her fondness for word games. Ruth was born in Irvona, PA. She was preceded by her husband Russell Gill, and by her parents George Hollingsworth and Zula Gallaher Hollingsworth, and by her brothers Lynn Hollingsworth and Bill Hollingsworth. As a devoted student, she never missed a day of school, earning a special award for 12 straight years of perfect attendance. She attended Indiana State Teachers College in Pennsylvania and earned her degree in English. She taught for many years at schools in Pennsylvania and New York. Ruth loved words, especially the challenge of her daily crossword puzzles. She played popular word games, like Scrabble and Quiddler, with her family and enjoyed her quiet reading time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Ruth played piano for the North Evans Congregational Church and the Highland Baptist Church. She was a faithful member of Revive Wesleyan in Hamburg for nearly 40 years. She is survived by her children Russell Gill, II (Wendy), Bradley Gill (Joie) and Melanie Gill and was a beloved grandmother to her five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Memorial Donations may be made to Revive Wesleyan in Hamburg. Arrangements by ADDISON FUNERAL HOME INC.
