Of West Seneca, at the age of 89, on February 16th, 2022. Wife of the late Merrill A. Bender, M.D. Mother of Merrill Scott (Vicki), James Y. (Cathy), Julia (Myron) Bender-Sharvan, Jeffrey (Sylvia), Dana (late Zach) Belcher, Deborah Bender and the late Michael Bender. Also survived by five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Services to be announced by NORMAN E. GANNON & SONS, Inc., FUNERAL HOME, 1075 Ridge Rd., Lackawanna (716-824-4000). Mrs. Bender was a Graduate of Kenmore West High School and Mount Holyoke College. She studied a Doctoral Program under the auspices of the Atomic Energy Commission at the University of Rochester. Along with her husband, she was active in the establishment of Nuclear Medicine in Western New York, training young physicians in the field. As an Alternate Delegate, she attended the Atoms for Peace Conference in Geneva, Switzerland. She traveled with her husband under the auspices of The International Atomic Energy Commission. She retired from Roswell Park after 25 years as an Assistant Cancer Research Scientist and Nuclear Medicine Technologist. An avid sailor, she loved sailing Lake Ontario, the Bay of Quinty and the St. Lawrence River with her family. Please visit
