Sarah L. Lewis, former WIVB-TV Director of Community Affairs passed away Wednesday, November 2, 2022, surrounded by three nieces singing her favorite hymns. She retired from WIVB-TV in 1991, ater 13 years as Director of Community Affairs. Prior to that she spent eight years as a member of the support staff in the station's sales department. Her media involvement was preceded by a two-year secretarial stint with the Buffalo Board of Education (Pupil Personnel), and 10 years as an administrative assistant at the Buffalo Council of Churches. Ms. Lewis received numerous awards, including recognition by the Girl Scouts of Buffalo and Erie County, Inc., with a 2004 "Woman of Distinction", award. She was a 1977 Buffalo Black Achievers recipient and was designated the Greyhound Corporation's 1976 "Woman of the Year". Other accolades include recognition by the National Conference of Christians and Jews and People, Inc. A life-long member of St. Paul's A.M.E. Zion Church, a religious institution with a nine-decade history of serving the East Buffalo community from its East Eagle Street location. Ms. Lewis was a choir member, a Sunday School teacher, and an advisor to church and neighborhood youth as a District and Conference Director of Christian Education Department. She was preceded in death by five siblings, and leaves behind a wealth of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends who celebrate the life she led. A wake and time of condolence with the family will be held Wednesday, November 16th between 6-8 p.m. Family Hour, Thursday morning November 17th, 10-11 a.m., followed by the funeral service.
