Shirley BERNER Obituary

BERNER - Shirley J.
(nee Beuerman)
January 15, 2022. In the home of her daughter Linda. Loving wife of the late Dr. Elmer Berner. Survived by daughter Linda (Bill) Adams; grandson Jamie; grandson Toby; granddaughter Kyle (Ben Freiner); and great-grandsons Alden and Keeler. Shirley worked at the University of Buffalo for decades, taught Sunday School to the three- and four-year-olds at Cleveland Drive Presbyterian Church for over 60 years. Enjoyed day trips, Elder Hostels all over the U.S., a round of golf, puttering in her flower gardens, annual Labor Day weekends at Allegany State Park (Parallel Trail Cabin #6), and organizing fun events. A woman of faith with a sunny disposition, her enthusiasm for joining in life's adventures will be missed. A Graveside Service was held on January 25. A celebration of Shirley and her life will be held in late June, in Buffalo, near the time of what would have been her 100th birthday. Contributions can be made to Cleveland Drive Presbyterian Church or a charity of your choice. Share an act of kindness and enJOY each moment of EVERY day. Arrangements by THE DIETRICH FUNERAL HOME. I was so sorry to learn of Shirley Berner's death. My condolences to her family and friends on your loss. In my position of University Archivist at UB from 1967-1987, I often had the pleasure of working with Shirley in her role as assistant in the office of Vice President Bob Wagner, among other administrators. She was such a great asset to UB, always so capable and and thoughtful. I also had the pleasure of seeing her and learning of her many activities at the UB Emeritus Center after we both retired. When I think back on all those years at UB, Shirley stands out as one of UB's very best.

Shirley was a wonderful person and great person to talk to on many topics. I enjoyed my visits at her home at income tax time, and she would talk about her children and grand children and what they were doing.
I would spend 3-4 hours with her as we talked about life. She loved her outside activities and her garden. It was a pleasure to know this marvelous lady. May she rest in peace.
