Steven SMITH Obituary

SMITH - Steven Christopher
of Amherst, NY passed suddenly June 20, 2023; Beloved husband of Amy (nee Confer); devoted father of Taylor, Christopher and Jackson; loving son of Robert and Karen (nee Cooke) Smith; cherished brother of Jason (Leigh) Smith and Lauren (Kendal) Brown; fond grandson of the late Clifford and Lorna (nee Cornell) Cooke; also survived by many dear nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Steve was a successful business owner of Steve's Landscaping Service, which he built from the ground up. Starting with a small trailer and his own lawnmower and servicing only a handful of customers. He quickly transformed his business to a full-time career with nearly 200 clients. Sports were Steve's passion. He was a diehard Bills fan from birth. A talented athlete, he excelled at multiple sports and continues to hold the indoor shot-put record at Kenmore East High School. Football, being his favorite sport, he played even after high school at the University of Rochester and on the Kenmore East Alumni Football Team. He was often spotted on the field helping his sons' flag football teams. While sports played a key role in Steve's life, his true love was his family. His children were his world, and he was devoted to Amy. His family was his top priority, often putting their needs before his own. Family time at Skyline Campground was his favorite. The family has enjoyed camping there since 2017. Activities he enjoyed were teaching the kids to fish, building and enjoying a campfire and dancing with the family to Crash Cadillac, live. Steve will always be remembered as the life of the party and a big kid at heart, beloved by everyone. His witty sense of humor brought people together, he just made everything more fun with his heart of gold. Family and friends may call Tuesday June 27th, 2023 from 4 - 8PM at The Dietrich Funeral Home, 2480 Kensington Ave., Amherst, NY. Flowers Gratiously declined. To coincide with Steve's 40th birthday, the family will be planning a celebration in October to honor and remember him. Online condolences may be left at www.THEDIETRICHFUNERALHOME.com

Hello, I just hear the news about Steve a few hours ago, I am so sad, I was his customer right from the beginning, I was wondering what happened to him this year. I wanted his family to know how great I thought Steve was. At the beginning when he didn´t have so many customers he would always spent time with me on my front porch, we talked and laughed about so many subjects, but each week he talked about his wife and kids. Steve was a wonderful person, I´m so happy I had Steve in my life for many years he gave so much joy to an old lady!

Steve was a delight to spend time with. Steve had an amazing way to make everyone smile & laugh with his presence. Getting to know him & Amy a bit over the past 20 years was great. I'll always appreciate the Thanksgiving they invited a single, lonely person into their home for dinner who couldn't go home to her to be with her family for the holiday. After hearing the horrible news of his sudden passing, I "randomly" stumbled on the invitation Amy & Steve sent for Taylor's first birthday. To say he will be missed by all who knew & loved him is a ridiculous understatement. My heart breaks for Amy, the kids, Jason, Leigh, Lauren, Kendal, and Mr & Mrs. Smith. Losing a husband, brother, and son is absolutely tragic & life shattering. My prayers to entire Smith family & friends. Steve's memory will always live on.
