Susan Valas Obituary

Valas, Susan Scabrini

August 2, 1955 - October 13, 2024

She is survived by her husband Paul and four sons Julian, Benjamin, Ryan and Alec. Susan was born in Buffalo, New York and graduated high school in 1973. She received a Registered Professional Nursing Degree from The University of Buffalo and a BS Business degree from The University of Phoenix. Susan began her career in nursing and worked in Denver and Vail, Colorado. She was co-owner of The Brass Bed retail store for a number of years. Susan transitioned to motherhood and her writing career. She authored a memoir and published numerous short stories and poems. She was recognized by the Denver Women's Press Club for and essay as a new author. Susan and Paul have raised four sons, Julian (32), Benjamin (28), Ryan (28), and Alec (28). Susan was of Italian ancestry and was very passionate and inquisitive regarding her heritage. She became fluent in the language and obtained her Italian citizenship. She wrote numerous essays and short stories about her upbringing in Buffalo and her extended Italian roots. Susan loved her family and friends and she and Paul made many trips to spend time with those they loved. Late in life, Susan was compelled to spend time with family in Buffalo and invest in the older generations of the family. Susan was an avid reader and loved to explore new areas of the world. She and Paul traveled to many countries and enjoyed many experiences. Susan also was very compassionate and a volunteer/supporter of several social causes, including addiction treatment and homelessness. She spent multiple years advocating and supporting programs and outreach to these causes. Susan was a very spiritual person and was able to see her family before the end of her journey. We are planning a Memorial and Celebration of Life in Buffalo on Friday, July 25, 2025 - details to follow.
