To Sue and Family -- I just learned of Frank's accident and your loss. It was simply terrible news.

He'd been a good friend since we first met in the early 60s, right after I began my work with the Patriots, so you might say we had that interest in common right off the bat. But also as Auburn and Oxford 'guys' respectively, our paths crossed in a positive way right from the beginning. And for me the good news for many years is that we did a good job keeping in touch.

With deep regret, however, but with a lot of good memories, please know that our prayers are with you. Sincerely, Jack Nicholson.

Sending my sincere condolences to the entire Valas family. It is never easy saying goodbye to a loved one, and when I think about the tight neighborhood we grew up in, it's hard not to think of Mr. Valas as one of our own. I know this must be a very difficult time for all of you, and I hope that warm and loving memories of your time together can bring you comfort, especially when you find you are missing him the most.

Frank Valas had a gift for fixing things, including hurt feelings. Using wit and wisdom in a brilliant and effortless fashion, he could make a dire predicament a source of amusement. Frank loved it when broken things got fixed. My friend and debate partner at Assumption Prep also helped rescue our school newspaper. We learned lessons together (Frank's quick wit in debate was unmatched) that served us well in life. As he did with all his friends, Frank looked after me with a brotherly warmth that asked nothing in return. My most sincere sympathies to Sue and family. I deeply regret not having spent more time with my friend.
