My sincere sympathy to Val’s family. Val was a VERY SPECIAL PERSON. She was caring, loving, fun, courageous, thoughtful, forgiving, and so much more. I will always remember her smile and her giggle.
Her friendship was precious to me. My life is better for having known her. I just know that she is watching over all of us.
Thoughts and prayers are with Val’s family and friends. May all the happy memories bring you comfort.

Val was a true angel. She never spoke a bad word about anyone. She always carried a positive attitude even through the bad times. I knew Val for over 30 years. She will be sorely missed by all whose lives she touched. I consider myself lucky to have been able to call a Val a friend for all these years. We kept in touch even though I no longer lived in Buffalo. My heart goes out to all her loved ones.

To Val's incredible family,
I was Blessed to know your mom/sister/friend, and her magnetic smile and personality during my time at Key Bank. She was always the most optimistic, funny, bright light, and talked always of her love for her children. Her kids gave her the love and optimism to get up each day, I suspect that is what kept her fighting so hard for so long.
I will be keeping all of you in my thoughts and prayers, where you have been, and I will be honored to see Val again one day. Blessings to all of you!

There are no words of comfort that can help ease the pain that we are all feeling at this time. Myself I will always remember the day many years ago that this sweet little girl named Val came into my life. She was my first niece. She grew into this beautiful young woman and as time went on she became a sweet, loving mother and friend to many. Her untimely death has left a void in our lives. Always in my heart,

The Sunset has new meaning now and forever more as does the Sunrise. Aside from my own mother and grandmothers there isn't anyone I have ever known who has shown me the full measure of unconditional motherly love that is in any part equal to what you gave to me and to everyone I know who knows you. Val was a Mom to so many kids in the University Heights neighborhood and I have always admired her patience, love for everyone and the example she set for all of us other Moms.... she was a great woman and will be missed by so many...my sincere condolences to all of you .

My sincere condolences to Val’s family during this difficult time. I worked with Val at Brand Names in the early-mid 90’s. I remember her as such a kind person, and very loving mother. It was always known that her family, especially her children, were always at the top of her mind as she often shared humorous moments with us. Valerie was the great teacher of Love, Forgiveness, Faith, Strength, and how to enjoy the simple things in life. Val leaves such an imprint on my life that I can only smile when I think of her and inspire to more like ‘Mama Dowd’. Anyone that came in contact with Val was given a smile, care, and love. We’re all better people because of her; remember her lessons and examples to carry on her legacy.

Words can never express all the feelings I have for Val and our friendship. She helped me through so much and always made me laugh. Val will be missed greatly but I am glad for our friendship and she will always be in my heart.
